There is an enigmatic message on Eels website and a little snippet of music that seems to indicate a release in April.
I am officially fucking excited.
I will be even more excited if it is followed by a tour.
Musings on the byways of popular culture
As a long time follower of Mark E Everett I am also beyond giddy by this teaser. If you have not seen this band live, do yourself the best favour of the year and go watch them. Oh, and buy the whole back catalogue on Amazon. Not a bad album. Ever.
I was going to post an erudite essay on the virtues of Eels…
…On this occasion, at least, brevity will say far more.
YES.
that is all.
Tour please.
The Deconstruction – 6th April 2018
My first exposure to Eels would’ve been hearing ‘My Beloved Monster’ in the middle of Shrek. After that I heard their studio albums intermittently through a friend’s collection. The first album I bought for myself was Hombre Lobo, after which I’ve gradually filled in the back catalogue as well as buying every subsequent new album.
We saw him a few years ago at the Sage in Gateshead and he was fantastic. It’s impossible to decide which of his songs is the best, though I’ve always loved ‘Climbing to the Moon’
Climbing to the moon is mine too oh and The look you gave that guy.
E is a genius in my house
And let’s have a big thumbs-up for the book “Things the Grandchildren Should Know” by Mark Oliver Everett. Good stuff!
Album & Tour including UK dates now announced!

Tour? London/Manch/Glasgow………
I don’t book ‘em, I’m merely the messenger. But I stand by my words, Tour, including UK dates. Would you like to borrow my glasses ?😜
New track too:
The last couple of albums haven’t done it for me but this sounds promising. And yes, always worth seeing live.
Hmmm… “Promising”.
Is that faint praise or actual enthusiasm?
I’m not especially an Eels fanboy but that was musically pretty good. Except:
1. It’s about 1 minute too long
2. It’s a bit miserable.
Point No. 2 has reminded me of a link to something I noticed at the bottom of the BBC iPlayer page. A BBC Music article “Has pop music lost it’s fun?”.
Cautious enthusiasm I think! And ‘a bit miserable’ sums up about 75% of my record collection, so not a problem for me.
For transparency I have opted for double yellow vinyl 10″ edition and will get a ticket for Eels at Brixton in the presale hopefully.
It’s not pop music, it’s not all supposed to be fun and it’s melancholic rather than miserabilism. And E has a wonderful sense of humour that people miss. Fuck people, they are idiots
Couldn’t agree more @DogFacedBoy – will be trying for Brixton in the presale so chance for a pre gig drink?
No doubt if I get the ticket he will add more dates incl Brum later – has happened before
More new Eels!
