93 after a long illness.
Went from having her books banned and even burned to being lauded as one
of the finest and influential Irish writers of the last century.

Lovely writer and so it seems, a good person.
About ten years ago, she joined Ian Rankin and a couple of others onstage during Van Morrison’s Lit Up Inside book reading tour.
Sadly, for reasons I can’t quite recall she didn’t make it over to Dublin for the show I was at. Second half of the show featuring Van and a small band playing deep cuts about Ireland was absolutely terrific. Some tunes from the night at the Dublin Olympia are up on YT
Loved her earliest novels The Country Girls, Girl With Green Eyes, Girls In Their Married Bliss. Haven’t really kept abreast of her later works.
She was, of course, celebrated as an Irish literary icon in this ace tune.
Warning: contains Simon Beast.
