Bought the “January 2019” edition of Uncut, just to see what was (and wasn’t) in their End-Of-Year lists. (Ho-Hum) and for the crossword, of course. Coverdisc disappointment as per, but I noticed among the reviews this bit of limited-appeal product.
A 21-CD box (with 300-page booklet) of this very non-mainstream outfit. On sale at the usual rampantly-capitalist outlets for a surprisingly non-ECM price point of around 80 of your pre-Brexit spondulicks.
Many Afterworders will shrug their shoulders and say “So what?” or something more pithy. Personally, I’m tempted to fork over some of my readies, while they still have any value, and make some shelf space/ear space for it.

I hold the Art Ensemble dear, they were my introduction to free jazz & I feel privileged to have seen them a couple of times – which was mesmerising.
I don’t play them much, truth be told, & I’ve come to wonder if really the live experience of seeing them (the theatre & the spontanaity in particular) was where they excelled, which is hard to replicate on studio albums.
I guess what I’m saying is, I’d have to look carefully at the contents of the box set before deciding & the more live stuff there was , the more likely I’d be to splurge.
Having said that & to totally contradict myself, I bet it’s brilliant & should I ever see it discounted, I’d snap it up – to be added to the pile of stuff I can’t play in the house when Mrs Jim is in!
