One of the great footnote/what-if bands in late 60s Britain, spanning 1967-69, with one album on Elektra, a few singles, two future members of Fairport/Fotheringay and two female singers, Kerrilee Male (on most of the records) and then the great Dorris Henderson (on one single), the latter having recorded two albums with John Renbourn in the previous few years. For four months towards the end former Brian Auger Trinity/future Isotope guitarist Gary Boyle was a member, hitherto unrepresented on record with them.
Here are five of the eight tracks from the bands last two BBC radio sessions, both with Dorris on vocals and the latter with Gary Boyle on fabulous guitar and (who knew?) Jethro-esque flute. Enjoy!

And here’s the other one, and the Wikipedia entry…

Dorris Henderson. There’s a rock n roll name if ever there was one. Gary Boyle played the stinging lead guitar on “In a broken dream”, much marvelled at back in the day.
Several of the songs on her two solo LPs wound up in the Pentangle repertoire. Here she is with John and Danny on ‘No More My Lord’ in 1967:
I really like Dorris Henderson and John Renbourn’s first album “There You Go” (1965), which was re-released on one of Ian A. Anderson’s labels a few years ago.
I can’t think that Love cover versions were too plentiful in swinging London, but Dorris’s “Message To Pretty” was released on a Fontana 45 as early as March ’67.
Her ‘Hangman’ B-side (not on YouTube), an interpretation of Lead Belly’s ‘Gallis Pole’, was clearly the template for LZ’s ‘Gallow’s Pole’.
I’m sure I saw Eclection play somewhere or other, back in the mists.
Buggered if I remember where.
Enjoyable clips, Colin.
Thanks Mike – I find them pretty impressive too!
