This is just a heads-up for anyone who may be interested and missed the Kickstarter campaign: my very limited edition companion volume to ‘Bathed In Lightning: John McLaughlin, the 60s and the Emerald Beyond’ (Jawbone, 2014) is now available via the good auspices of Peter Muir at Market Square Music.
For a day or two I knew how it felt like to be New Order circa ‘Blue Monday’ – some default postage rates glitch meant that I was losing money on every copy bought! But Peter has (I am told… touch wood…) sorted the whole thing out now and copies can be purchased (at Β£14.95) for the moment exclusively via www.marketsquaremusic.com – with postage anywhere in the world.
The book will be listed on amazon.co.uk in due course BUT it will be Β£19.95 and will only post to the UK. I’ve opted to have this amazon listing because it’s a widely known/trusted online retailer, but from a one-item, low-run seller’s point of view it’s a bit of a killer, hence the higher price to mitigate that. Also, one cannot alter amazon’s default ‘rest of world’ postage rates, hence UK-only from amazon once it’s up there. I hope that makes sense…

I initially thought I’d pass on this β too marginal for my taste I thought. But having a copy of the book on my desk for two days now (on loan from the office nearby…) I’m really fascinated. Lots of great stories and interviews from people in the background, this forms an interesting alternative history of the sixties/seventies music scene, from Miles Davis to David Bowie, and Sandie Shaw to Gunter Hampel.
And a comment on page 385 (re. the Hanover gig): According to my copy of the German monthly Sounds magazine (who were the tour sponsor), the last three dates of the 1975 Wishbone Ash package tour (“Golden Summer Night”) were August 31 in Berlin at the Deutschlandhalle (Wishbone Ash, Renaissance, Caravan, Ufo, Message), September 2 in Hanover at the Niedersachsenhalle (Wishbone Ash & Renaissance), and September 5 in Essen at the Grugahalle (Wishbone Ash, Renaissance, Baker Gurvitz Army, Dave Mason). No McLaughlin involved.
Just noticed your reply, Fatz. Thank you for the kind words! “on loan from the office next door…” – intriguing!
Actually, the first book (‘Bathed In Lightning’) is much closer to an alternative history of Swinging London, but I’m delighted if you find this one – effectively, the annotations and sidebars to the first book – enjoyable and accessible. And thanks for the Wishbone/Star Truckin’ tour info…
That means Vienna must be the last Mahavishnu did on European soil – and the only time, as far as I’m aware, that any MO line-up played the glorious ‘Faith’, roughly at 12:00:

And I’ve finally published a review of the book on my blog (sometimes life gets in the way…).
In English Fatima?
Yes. Great it is, of course.

Thank you Fatz – a nice surprise! I posted on here a while back (in the Noticeboard) with a link to a further 5,000 words added to the second printing of EfT. In case you have remaining capacity… π
And are MO II *really* that intolerable? π
