It was back in the days of Napster and Limewire. Those of us net-savvy music kleptos, of a more cautious disposition, favoured the binary internet newsgroups to get our fix. Picking up a virus was not quite as likely there and a more esoteric (less mainstream) selection of tracks could be found.
I recall one obsessive collecting as many different versions of the old Duke Ellington standard “Caravan” as he could and posting them. Into the hundreds, it went as others joined him in his quest.
Another obsessive collected live Dylan covers of other people’s songs, the original versions and versions by others and posted them all out in album-size batches. 65 albums worth of them (with an occasional bit of duplication where he forgot that he’d already posted things) before the thing petered out. Not being much of a Dylan fan at the time I just scooped up the originals and the better covers that I fancied and left the Dylan versions alone.
Dylan has seemingly always liked to play the occasional cover when the fancy takes him.
Wow… he’ll be doing the “cape routine” next.
What do we want? Knee drops!
Trouble is… then you have to get back up again. Crrrrack!
Thanks, Bob. You shouldn’t have. Really.

I am waiting for the 6cd super deluxe edition.
Predictable π£π£π£π£π£
Was playing at the James Brown auditorium.
Interesting!
When he played Wembley did he score a dodgy last-minute goal against West Germany?
Yeah -and he also slipped a backhander to the Azerbaijani linesman.
You crossed the line my friend with that insinuation.
If you look at the VT, you’ll find that he didn’t.
If you want to hear how this song should sound, buy Natacha Atlas’ album “Something Dangerous”.
Or listen to James Brown
Or Renee Geyer. Still in her live set 40 odd years later
Best James Brown cover I’ve ever heard. Well done Your Bobness, first James Brown cover I’ve ever heard.
The thing is I always thought James Brown was overrated, still do.
Interesting. I have the same deeling about Bob Dylan. Takes all sorts I suppose π
Please note, I said ‘I always thought’, my opinion.
Lots of people have no time for Dylan. In my opinion that’s their loss. As you say, ‘Takes all sorts’.
On reflection my comment was a bit trolly. I like a bit of Bob but given a choice between him and JB I’d often go for the latter
Bizarre sort of choice though.
Get foonky loud.
Get on the Godfoot
