S’funny – you’ve got me all nostalgic for that period between 1980 and 2000* when it was almost de rigueur that every new tune would arrive with an accompanying set of images to which it would be inextricably linked in my mind. Nowadays, I can be listening to a band for months before it even crosses my mind to wonder what they look like.
Bizarre in a way, as I can’t ever listen to podcasts/radio for more than a while without idly imagining what faces would go with those voices.
(*yes, there were videos before and since, but they’re really just curiosities, at least to me..)
It is good. Almost trademark Doves. Been a fan for a while but have to be in the right mood for them these days, which is probably true for all my fave bands these days.
Used to enjoy seeing them in the Southern pub in Chorlton back in the day when they could be quite endearingly shambolic. Some of their stuff is semi-anthemic…Winter Hill springs to mind.
Sounds good. I managed to see Doves twice last year, once at the Teenage Cancer trust Albert Hall “comback’ gig and once at Portsmouth’s Victorious Festival. Interestingly for a band who can get quite anthemic I thought they were better indoors.
I saw them outdoors at Bearded Theory and enjoyed it more than the times I saw them indoors when they were first around! It was a lovely sunny spring evening

I always thought Pounding was a really anthemic track, that captures the adrenaline rush of a night out as well.
I only have an album or two but picked up the Where We’re Calling From DVD cheap and love the live stuff from the Eden Project. Wish I’d seen them.
Which some public-spirited soul has put up on YouTube. https://youtu.be/3ybipBccDp4
I was there that night. Bizarrely, support act was Mumford and Sons. *unpopular opinion alert* I thought they were all right.

Yes I’ve got a few of their albums including one with with remixes and they’re all good.
