UPDATE : Remarkably, after just 3 days your generosity has secured our costs for another 12 months. If you’ve not yet got round to donating, please don’t let that put you off (and anyway, what’s the REAL benefit to Sport Relief?) but we can all sleep that little bit easier tonight knowing that there will be another year of classic “Yes or Genesis – who had the best amplifiers?” discussion. Where else? Nowhere else, that’s where! Thank you
As most of you will be aware, The Afterword site is run entirely without costs …except for our internet hosting costs. Any work involved in keeping the site up to date technically and keeping those pesky Russian bots off the site is done on a voluntary basis, as is the small amount of Moderation time involved (compared to other sites, at least). No-one takes or makes any money from the site and we are an ad-free zone.
Considering the high volume of traffic, we get a great deal from our service provider on the hosting charges, but we do still have a monthly fee to meet (it costs roughly £70 a month to keep the site up and running).
Unlike our close rival Wikipedia, it’s almost two years since we had to issue a call for Donations, but now the site needs your generosity again to top up the coffers.
Whatever you can spare will help, no matter how small the amount. To donate, please use the DONATE button at the top of the site. This will take you to a PayPal donations page but you don’t need to have a PayPal account to donate. A few people have donated by setting up small recurring payments of anything between 50p and a couple of quid a month so that might be a good way of doing it. Entirely your call (and you’ll need a PayPal account to do it, I think)
Regrettably, there’s no way for us to acknowledge the donations individually, but rest assured all contributions to the site, financial or otherwise, help to keep it alive, make it the warm and lovely place it is and are much appreciated.
Twang says
Done.
mikethep says
Done, some time ago if memory serves. *reminder to self: check bank account*
‘Regrettably, there’s no way for us to acknowledge the donations individually…’ Wot, no hamper?
fentonsteve says
Mrs F says “It’s got to be worth a few quid so I don’t have to listen to him.”
Paul Wad says
Yep, I’ve donated for the same reason. Every word I type on here is one less that my wife has to sit, glassy eyed, through.
Junior Wells says
Do you accept bitcoins?
Ainsley The Admin says
No, full coins only.
Ba Dum, Tish. Hamper winner for most obvious joke of 2020 so far
jazzjet says
Done.
Feedback_File says
A princely sum has been sent to the AW coffers. A small price to pay for such wholesome entertainment.
Colin H says
Done.
Chrisf says
Has anyone else successfully donated from outside the UK ?
I have tried a few times over the years to donate, but every time get the same error message from PayPal that “sorry your last action could not be completed”. Tried again just now and still the same error.
My PayPal account is active and works fine for every other transaction I do, so it should not be that.
I seem to recall that I highlighted this before a few years ago, but don’t think anyone could work out what was going on…….
Lodestone of Wrongness says
Seems to work from France (although this time next year possibly not?)
dai says
I did last time
dai says
And I just did it again. Really not an issue at all for me (Canadian paypal account).
salwarpe says
It works fine from Germany.
Locust says
Worked fine for me from Sweden just now, did the monthly thing.
chilli ray virus says
… and from Australia – although I donated in pounds
Chrisf says
Still can’t get it to work – when logged in to my PayPal account I get the message that the action could not be completed. When I try without logging in and just use the credit card option, I get the message that this card cannot be used for this transaction. This occurs on two different cards from two different banks. I suspect the PayPal fail is due to my account being linked to one of these cards.
Very strange.
All I can think is that there is some sort of block on this payment with Singapore cards, although I can’t see why – I’m trying to give you money not generate spam……
I will check with my bank advisor when I next talk to them to see if they have any ideas. But for now, sorry – I’ve run out of ideas how to get my money to you.

How much do you have to donate to get one of those?

Done. Thanks to all behind the scenes for seeing the site going (and those in front of the scenes for keeping me entertained).
bobness says
Absolutely what he said. Well worth a couple of quid a month to keep a safe haven in these troubled times in business.
nigelthebald says
*makes small deposit*
Sorry about that 😉
Barry Blue says
Done (though I do regard myself as something of the Tumbleweed King)
retropath2 says
Just a thought, any mileage in looking at a crowdfunding model, like Patreon? (Minglefunding??)
This would not exclude casual browsing, but a subscription would give a ‘bonus’: an audience with Tiggerlion, a demo with Fentonsteve, a private viewing of BlackCelebrations shed, that sort of kudos.
Any legs?
fentonsteve says
As in payment to the AW in order to be released from the studio?
moseleymoles says
Done. Keep up the good work admins so I can keep messing about on other people’s threads..
the simmo kid says
Done… and this message posted simply to say Thank You to all involved in running this entertaining, informative and often amusing site.

simon22367 says
Done, from a long time lurker and minimalist poster.
Ainsley The Admin says
Lurking absolutely acceptable. Lurker : poster ratio is about 10:1
Freddy Steady says
@ainsley-the-admin
Are you certain about that ratio?
Ainsley The Admin says
Nope. Janet Ellis told me and I suspect it was a complete guess
retropath2 says
Does her daughter lurk here? Don’t tell @Paul-Wad
Freddy Steady says
Still quite a big ratio I reck @ainsley-the-admin
Kaisfatdad says
Done it. Thanks to all of the Admin team for keeping the good ship Afterword afloat and on course.
I am seriously hoping I will win the raffle for that Golden VIP Ticket to the Black Celebration Shed.
Jack Kelsey says
Have Done So – More than happy to do so – I’ll forego this months special Malt buy. I will still drink a toast to the Admin. continuing the GOOD WORK – I do have others in reserve for this occasion. Cheers.
