Harrowing reading it so heaven knows what you must be gong through. A very tough few days by sound of it and here’s hoping you will get some reprieve – and that bloody garden will sort itself out.
Wishing you and Jan all the best mate and thanks for sharing with us.
Amazing as ever, Niall. We’re with you every step of the way.
My oldest friend has just told me that he has a 7.5cm round tumour on his lung, and it’s already spread to adrenal glands, pancreas and windpipe. He’s going to have chemo, but I’m not optimistic, and neither is he it has to be said. I’m debating with myself about whether to recommend your blog to him. I’m sure he’d find it interesting and informative, and he seems to be on an even keel for the time being, but on balance I think probably not – it won’t hurt him to remain in ignorance of what’s in store for a little longer.
Hi Niall, you are truly very eloquent in your writing whether it’s ups or downs in your fight with that horrible condition. I know my condition is nowhere near what you are handling with courage and dignity which I find inspiring. Good luck and keep the music playing. R.
An honest and engaging read Niall, and I can only echo what some of the people on this thread are saying about listening to your body.
I think you’re making some interesting points about work and how indulgences in your later years can be thought of being paid for by the shite we have had to put with previously in our working lives.
I’ve held off over a number of iterations of the assault on Gregor. As an (ex) professional I tend more toward fatalism than many, seldom convinced by hope or expectation. You retain an unervingly keen sense of balance, that has me grasping my hat in admiration. Let’s kill this fucker!!
Just returned home from celebrating mum’s 95th birthday. Here’s hoping that science comes up with a cure so you can celebrate such high numbers in the future!
A tough read. I suspect a tougher write though. You are doing so well and thank you for sharing. There is always something to take away and learn from in your blog.
I suspect those Welsh cakes did some good. Sometimes the simple things, done well, are the best. You might have to start adding some recipes to your blog.
It’s awful that you’re going through such pain and upset and doubly impressive that one of the results is that you’re giving the rest of us such powerful and moving writing. I hope it’s doing you good too. I love the distinction between ‘look out for yourself’ and ‘look after yourself’; that makes absolute sense. May you (and Janet) keep doing both.
Strewth mate.
I’m glad you had a word with yourself. I hope you said “I’m coping extremely well with this.”
Because you are.
I can only second this.
Thirded.
Industrial strength self-awareness; an inspiration to me and I suspect to many more of us on here.
Fourthed.
There’s nowt wrong with spending the day sitting in a chair, if that’s what your body wants you to do.
@fentonsteve thanks 🙏
@Vulpes-Vulpes thanks 🙏
@hubert-rawlinson thanks 🙏
@Freddy-Steady thanks 🙏
The former, FA cup final scoring, West Ham marksman?
Can my above post be removed? Posted to wrong thread and no intention to take away from Nial’s incredibly moving post. Apologies.
@Leem no worries 🙏

@Leedsboy Thanks 🙏 and, yes, I’m trying to persuade Janet to do a recipe book.
Or a Janet Bakes TikTok channel…??
