We too have an Acer in the back garden. My only complaint is it likes it too much out there, and I have to trim it back every winter to stop it growing so much that it comes through the patio doors and joins us in the kitchen. At this time of year, the birds love it, too.
My Covid jab (my 13th) also made me fell pretty grotty for a couple of days this time.
That almond cake looks gert lush.
Yesterday was World IBD Day and I saw a graphic of an iceberg on FB (I found it – see Crohn’s & Colitis Awareness).

That’s pretty much how I feel about it – people only see the 10% above the surface. Replace the word “IBD”, and it sounds like there’d be an overlap with the Lymphoma FB group.

My late mother in law bought us some acers this was the only one that survived. It was known as her acer but we had to leave it behind when we moved. I’ve recently bought one to replace it here.

Terrific update Niall – so good to read such positivity and progress! When you get a chance, you might enjoy the maples collection in the arboretum at Westonbirt – they have loads of maples in a big clearing.
You’ve got my tummy rumbling, so I’m off to the village shop in a minute to see what cakes they have in today – none to match the ones in your post, but yummy all the same.

I don’t much like Slough but I have much less reason for it than you. I do have fond memories of the Maybox cinema but, other than that, all my recent trips to Slough have involved buying or servicing cars. Other than that, driving past it on the M4 seems the best plan.
