Hair loss is probably a worse blow for women than for most men, and you seem to have a well-shaped head as well. If I lost my hair I fear I’d look like Uncle Fester in drag! 😀
Rest and relax as much as possible, you need your strength – same goes for Janet.
Lovely to hear that so many friends and family members are rallying around you to keep your spirits (and appetite) up!
Another interesting and informative read with your positive attitude beaming through. As I and others have said this would be invaluable to others to read going through the same experience so hopefully it will get published someday . Look after each other 👍
I went skiing in Livigno 30 years ago, so I recognise some of the wide shots. Lots of “I’ve been there!” shouted at the telly. I went down that half-pipe on skis (without any of the aerobatics).
And, with a bit of practice, we could all slide down an icy mountain on a tea tray, couldn’t we?
Livigno is a slightly strange place. Pretty much the end of an Alpine cul-de-sac, so remote and so close to the Swiss border that, historically, the Italian tax men didn’t bother to visit, so it developed as a duty-free region.
Being a ‘hairy’ three hour drive away from the nearest airport meant it escaped being over-developed during the ’60s. I took a day trip to St Moritz, which was like Harlow in the snow.
Somewhere I’d like to go back and visit in the summer months on a campervan tour.
So many things in that one. Phil and Gill (what a bonus when couples rhyme) have very good taste in football teams. I imagine they are cautiously happy about Leeds.
Daffodils are simply the best flower in the world. Nothing fancy but the best and most cheerful colour and it’s all about the flower. And they’re a quid a bunch.
The hair loss is a tricky one. You wear a hat well Niall (and you have a decent collection it seems) so you are prepared. Spectacles suit a less hairy head so fingers crossed you style it out with minimal impact!
The health centre in Bracknell is excellent isn’t it? Just seems to work. I’m glad they’re looking after you.
Knees are bastards. Mine went this weekend just warming up a goalkeeper before a match. Good luck with that – I suspect the little things will be more irritating than the obviously big things in the coming weeks.
Love snooker me, 9 World Championship titles in total by players from my general home town area (Reardon and Williams) and many other decent players. Am also a member of a club here in Ottawa, however my highest break remains 31 from ca 1985, had a chance to match or beat it a few weeks ago, but messed it up 🙁
Used to love it BITD but other than Ronnie they’re all too systematic and mechanical. I might be being unfair as I rarely watch it so there might be exciting new players and I wouldn’t know.
@Leedsboy Thanks, mate. I have decided to celebrate the bald and ordered a head shaver. Apparently, when it grows back after chemo, it is incredibly curly! Not having that at all.
Superb as ever Niall. Hope blood test was ok this morning.
Agree about the Winter Olympics – it was brilliant stuff helped in the UK by being in our time zone, as indeed will the next one be. The BBC coverage was terrific; agree about Steve Cram, and the commentary teams generally were excellent. Claire Balding is brilliant at getting the best out of really good experts like Chemmy Alcott and Lizzie Yarnold and asking the questions most of us are wondering about without ever being patronising.
@Blue-Boy Thank you. I thought the two lads in their shed, doing the ‘nutter sports’ in the half-pipe, etc, were great as well. I had no idea what they were talking about most of the time but they made it sound such fun that it didn’t matter.
Absolutely! I still have no idea what an alley-oop is or the goofy stance on a snowboard but those two guys were thoroughly entertaining and definitely added to the jollity of the nation.
Another well written and informative post. I was transfixed by the half pipe too – what a bloody dangerous sport but fascinating.
It seems that the tiredness is pervasive – I assume that as the chemo progresses that will diminish?
I am a big fan of the Coen Brothers too and like you I haven’t seen Millers Crossing. I will rectify that.
Keep meeting it full on – we are all rooting for you.
Another wonderfully readable, informative page from your diary. ‘
We may not all say so much so often, but there are a lot of us out here in cyberspace rooting for you.
@Kaisfatdad Thank you 🙏
Careful with the Canadian cheating allegations! Just kidding, another excellent read
* everyone still smarting here from losing the (ice) hockey finals to the dastardly USA
@dai Sorry, knee jerk reaction. Thanks 🙏

@Locust The support is amazing. Thanks for the kind words.

@Bejesus Thank you.🙏
Weren’t the winter olympics great?

@fentonsteve The scenery was beautiful. 🙏

Keep on keeping on.
And I forgot about how gripping the curling was. Is there a better televised slow sport? I can’t think of one.
@Leedsboy I’d watch curling over snooker any day.
Even watching Spurs is better than snooker….

Good call I reckon. Don’t forget the sunblock.
I can recommend one of those wide-brimmed Ozzie hats (without the dangling corks). The ones with the pocket inside the top.
A bit plain-looking but head and shoulders remain in the shade. I also wear long-sleeve polo shirts in SPF 50 material. Less goo than SPF 50 sunblock.
I believe I am the official UK Afterword ambassador for Tilley sun hats. Highly recommended.
Them’s the ones.
@fentonsteve Good advice, ta.
Be sure to get the ones listed as “Breathable” and “Moisture Wicking”.
Some of the lesser UPF50 material can feel a bit like wearing a bin bag as the temperature rises, as I found to my cost.
I’ll PM you a link if you like.
@fentonsteve That’d be great.
@Leedsboy Will do.
Superb as ever Niall. Hope blood test was ok this morning.
