The former Dr Hook singer has passed at age 76. He was a fine singer with a very recognisable voice. The only one of his gigs I attended was in 2008 when he was a member of Bill Wyman & the Rhythm KIngs. He gave a fine performance.

Was always a bit of a guilty pleasure. RIP.
I didn’t always like what he was singing but his voice was absolutely fantastic.
R.I.P.
Agreed
I saw him in the early 2000s touring his “Out of the dark” album and he was excellent. Fine musician too, playing a number of instruments. I was a fan after seeing Dr. Hook on the Whistle Test and for the record I think Sylvia’s Mother is brilliant. RIP.
Sylvia’s Mother was the first single I ever bought. I’d just turned 11 in 1972, and went into town on my own to buy my first single. I had a few in mind, but when I went into the shop Sylvia’s Mother was playing over the loudspeakers. I asked the assistant for the song that was playing, so it ended up being my first single. I used to be embarrassed telling people this story, as it didn’t seem a hip enough record to be my first single, but those days are long gone. I still have it and will give it a spin in memory of Dennis. RIP, and thanks for all the music.
Anyone too cool for “Sylvia’s Mother” is too cool. You might like this little story.
Thanks Twang, That was rather wonderful.
Back in the day, I used to know the words/chords for Sylvia’s Mother, Cover of the Rolling Stone, Freakin’ at the Freakers’ Ball and one or two others. I used to actually sing/play them in front of people. Always went down well.
But then, I’ve never been cool…
RIP, Dennis.
The really cool people, are so busy actually being cool, they don’t even think about it….
Well yes.
If you’re thinking about your coolness then you aren’t being cool.
OTOH, not thinking about your coolness doesn’t mean that you’re cool.
Tricky, eh?
Schrodinger’s cool cat.
There was a Whistle Test special, In Concert, and they were such freaks I had to love them Not so keen as they descended into disco country smooch central: A Little Bit More and all that. In later years a solo LaCorriere toured with Clive Grayson on lead guitar, always disappointed I decided against, at the last minute.

In the late 70s, my neighbour and I used to raid his older sister’s record collection and mime along to “The Jungle To The Zoo” on tennis racquets, my axe of choice being a Bancroft Junior Bjorn Borg signature. For that memory alone I owe him something.

As a young and hopelessly skinny pop presenter I once had the pleasure of chatting to him. Only a snippet I’m afraid…and apologies for the terrible picture quality….
