I note this marmite band are touring UK in early November, tix on sale tomorrow. No word on their site as to who could be support. I sneaked a peek on Olivia Chaney’s site but no clues there either.
But that would be good, eh, even if no Brum date this time around.

I like The Decemberists. New album out in a week or so, from which this sounds promising.

I saw them in 2007 at Trent University and a fine gig it was too until they got to the encore, at which point everyone swapped instruments and they all disappeared into their own little world for about 10 minutes, during which time about half the audience left. The overwhelming sense of disappointment was beautifully put by a mate as we left the venue when he muttered the immortal phrase:
‘Well, what a load of self-indulgent folk wank.’
I couldn’t have put it better myself to be honest.

Love The Decemberists but I’m not sure about this new album. The tracks I’ve heard so far do nothing for me. I’m no longer buying albums by bands/artists I like unless they sound good to me. Unless it’s Neil Young, The Waterboys and Big Big Train.

I really like the Decemberists. I think they’re a wonderful band.
I’ve never seen them live, and would love to.
They’ve recently announced their European tour for autumn 2018.
Outside the UK and Republic of Ireland dates, the full extent of the “European tour” is as follows:
14 November – Utrecht
15 November – Amsterdam
16 November – Berlin
Erm … that’s not much of a European tour, is it?
Whereas in the US, they seem to be playing every one-horse town between Seattle and Miami.

I don’t think I’ve ever fallen in and out of love so quickly with a band. I was late to the party, got obsessed – poring over lyrics, all those cover versions Fraser led us to on the old site. I was a bit underwhelmed by The King is Dead album, saw them live and they left me cold. Haven’t bothered with them since. Lovely to see Jenny looking well though.
As soon as I heard ‘We Both Go Down Together’ from their third album, I was obsessed with this band. I’ve managed to catch them a couple of times – once in 2006 where they were supported by a captitaviting Juanita Stein (w/ Howling Belles) and then again during their ‘Hazards of Love’ Tour. Both times I’ve been impressed.
Having said that, their new single left me a slightly underwhelmed. I’ll still buy the album though because I’m like that.
The Crane Wife is very good. Everything they did subsequent is a pile of shite.
Won’t waste my time on this.

Just got the new on. Wasn’t planning to but it was on cheap at HMV. Yup, there are a couple of real clunkers, but the larger body are as good as anything they have done. The problem is that the clunkers, especially the Gary Glitter meets the kids from Brick in the Wall one, I can see getting the full Meloy live experience, with crowd orchestration. So. No. And no sign of Chaney on the opening US dates.
