I’m with you there – $700 is a bit much even for 80 discs.
Given that this is also being released as a limited edition USB stick, I suspect that we will see these individually released digitally at more reasonable prices once the limited edition is cleared.
They will also be available free of charge on a torrent near you.
Yes, I’ll be going for the tiny, modest 4CD highlights set, too, Bargey.
But, as we all know, plenty of Deadheads have deep pockets: the last I heard, the 6,500 limited edition at $700 was almost sold out after less than 2 days.
It’s a pity they won’t be putting any of the 30 shows out individually: there are a few there that I’d certainly be interested in such as:
1973 – 11/14, San Diego Sports Arena, San Diego, CA
1978 – 5/14, Providence Civic Center, Providence, RI
1991 – 9/10, Madison Square Garden, NY, NY
1993 – 3/27, Knickerbocker Arena, Albany, NY
I dare say that some of the hardcore deadhead nutters over at the Steve Hoffman forums will be holding out for an all-vinyl version of the complete box set. That should be around 160 LPs….
It sounds an incredible box set, but it’s rather a shame that in all those hundreds of hours of music, there’s not one version of the sublime “Brokedown Palace”, whereas you get no fewer than 9 versions of the rather throwaway encore rocker “One More Saturday Night”. Oh well.

Hmmm … no, I wont be shelling out for the Fare Thee Well set. The reason? No Jerry. If there’s no Jerry, it ain’t the Dead. Pure and simple.
I have, however just ordered the 3CD “Jerry Garcia Band on Broadway Act One – October 28, 1987” which features two acoustic sets and one electric set by the great man on the same day. Oh yes – it’s got PLENTY of Jerry in it.
