Glossop Record Club welcomed David Hepworth as their guest on April 19th. I was honoured to host the event and asked a range of questions relating to his books, Whistle Test, Live Aid and Smash Hits. Add to that the audience Q&A (Benny Hill, Top Of The Pops and Van Morrison all got a look in) plus a few records, David was even presented a record by the Hepworth Band from our very own Beany. He was, of course, delighted.

Twas a great night – and very well helmed by WholeHogg – who also went to to the trouble of sourcing some questions from Mark Ellen, and I’ll never forget David’s impersonation of Bob Marley’s skanking…
Excellent listen. You come across really well, Whole, as a really nice man and a good interviewer. To be fair, Hepworth comes across well too.
Sounds like a good night.
Cheers Tigger, most kind of you. Glad you enjoyed it.
Indeed was a splendid night.
Good to meet the good Doctor V, Beany and WholeHogg.
Oh and of course Mr Hepworth.
I’ll be seeing his show in Belfast next week. Will you be releasing a bootleg, Hogg – ‘The Hep: Never Mind the Glossops’? The title alone almost demands it.
Really enjoyed it. I liked the comment about back in the day watching TOTP and one’s Dad had two reactions – “call that music?” or “is that bass player a boy or a girl?”
In NZ we had “C’mon!” and “Studio One”, both of which the whole family watched and shared our always different opinions. But at least (and this is DH’s point) we knew what each other thought. And in Australia of course there was Countdown which I encountered when I moved here in 1981 but others may care to comment on in terms of watching with family @Junior-Wells
Excellent stuff, thanks! I’ve just finished Common People, so this was well timed!!
