  1. 81, so will be a challenge.

    One of my regrets in life is that I never went to see Ringo’ s All Starr band twenty years ago when they would have been about the same age as I was then. Dave was a member and I of should have gone rather than thinking myself too cool.

      Remember a few years back, when Tony Joe White played one of his more or less annual gigs in Whelans, Dublin. As generally restrict myself to one gig a month due to cost factors (travel, hotels, etc) and already had two gigs fairly close together, thought “I’ll catch him next time around”.

      Grab the chance to see these guys when you can. There’s none of us getting any younger

  2. I’ve always been a fan, but only got to see him once, pretty much by accident. He was part of the Live Stiffs tour in 1977 and I suddenly spotted him, totally unnanounced, as part of the rotating backing musicians. I even think he may have played drums at one point, but that may be a false memory. Did he ever tour much? I don’t recall ever seeing gigs advertised.

    • He was a not infrequent guest of the Jools Holland Big Band, who, as opposed to his obsequious TV presence, offer a good night out. I recall a rare “club” set, at B’hams The Jam House (part owned by Holland, or was), featuring Edmunds, playing his hits: I Hear you knocking, I knew the bride and an incendiary Sabre Dance, great with all the brass behind him.

    • I saw him live quite a few times. I must have seen Rockpile 4 or 5 times and then ‘solo’ 3 or 4 more. One of his ‘solo’ gigs (I think it may have been recorded for TV) featured a guest appearance by Dion DiMucci and I’m sure Steve Cropper was in the band. I think the highlight (for me) of every gig was that guitar break in the middle of Crawling From The Wreckage.

    • I think you may be inserting Dave Edmunds onto a drum stool that Ian Dury occupied.
      I saw the Bunch Of Stiffs tour and I distinctly remember that ID played drums for Wreckless Eric.

      • The “Live Stiffs” album had DE listed as drumming alongside Terry Williams on a few songs, if I remember correctly. I think I saw some photos, years back, but I’m not sure

  3. I saw him a few times at poly with Rockpile. Great band! I think his Sabre Dance might be where my guitar urge started. It still sounds so exciting.
