A version of Gang of Four are playing Dublin in June doing the Entertainment album. I have a ticket out of curiosity as much as expectation.
His basslines for Gang of Four and Shriekback were such a signature for both bands. Lined Up and Hand on My Heart are particular favourites. I think he played the bass on What We All Want by Gang of Four. What a monster of a bassline that is!
I saw them play at hometown Leeds show last year. Wasn’t expecting much (especially after the previous Andy gill reformation) but they were great. A good time will be had.
Which “Andy Gill reformation” was that? Have to say, I liked Sara Lee on bass and the Songs of the Free LP – but you might be referring to another configuration…
Thank you – I was waiting for that. On reflection, I just realized what many people already know – that that is of course both a gracious goodbye and an expressed wish to kick out religion.
First punk band I saw (I don’t think post-punk was a term then – they were first on before Penetration and then Buzzcocks on the Entertained tour. Great gig.

Carrying the riff on his bass for their best song:

About 10 years ago with a new singer. it wasn’t good.
