Very sorry to hear this. Nazareth were big for me in my early teens – one the first LPs I bought with my own pocket money was Razamanaz…
Dan was the Man! RIP.
Me too. And in those days I chose very carefully.
Only saw Nazareth once, at the Great British Music Festival in 1976, at Earls Court. Naz were second on the bill to Bad Company, and blew them away. At one point the power failed but McCafferty kept on singing and could be heard as clear as a bell throughout the whole arena. Razamanaz is a blinding album, not a duff track on it and Dan had a remarkable voice. I’ll remember him and Manny Charlton who died back in July fondly.
Pegasus label stalwarts! A voice that could strip paint at 100 yards! Hardrockin’ band! Think I’ll dig out their albums and have a loud evening to celebrate their existence, raise a glass to both Manny and Dan.
Only one of the original quartet still with us, Pete Agnew – so don’t forget to include Darrell when you raise your glass.

He would have been a great replacement for Bon Scott had Brian not been around.
