Boys and girls can join into this, it is not meant to be a creepy thread. I dream of having a girlfriend like Lucinda, blond, tattooed, beautiful, fragile, immaculate and stunningly talented. I’m supposed to be over this (I’m 50 FFS!) but when I listen to her, I just imagine what life would have been like if we had met 30 years ago and got on rather well. I think I would have ended up having my heart broken, but would have counted it one up for me. Who are you still in love with?

Bearing in mind that admitting to any sort of sexual attraction to someone you’re not actually married to is of course EXACTLY THE SAME AS RAPE around these parts, I’ll take the risk anyway. Similar to your choice but without the fragility, it’s the combination of the fringe, the telecaster, the potty mouth, the rock’n’roll swagger, a superb voice and songwriting skills, a sharp political mind and a lifelong commitment to torn jeans. I’d still buy Chrissie Hynde a pint if she was in my local.
Where is Mr. Sanctimonious when we need him?
Careful what you wish for.
Who is wishing? 😎
There is disappointment that you should raise this bob
-bins.
I don’t know what you mean. 😂
You’re playing to the Choir now.
I am Disappoint.
queuing up to snipe at someone who doesn’t even post here anymore is not a good look, chaps, and one hardly likely to endear you to the object of your lust (who I am reliably informed is reading this thread, (they all are, all of them) and wrinkling their nose while making eeeuuughh noises at you)
Jim Morrison isn’t.
No sniping from me KD – teasing Twang however…
Yeah, you got me there: cheap shot.
Any resemblance to posters past or present entirely coincidental, but hat size/head or smoke/fire etc. I suspect the fact that people seem to have leapt to the same conclusion may say it all. Me, no…what? Me, Ref?
To be fair I would say it if he was here, albeit with a smiley emoji, to display my love and passive aggression, and he would expect me to. The Abba wars aren’t still being waged for nothing……
Let’s see if he can be roused: that fella from Pointless can’t sing for toffee….
😉
Literally no-one has said this.
Literally no one would take that literally
Doesn’t sound like fun. The oft used saying “as rare as a Chrissie Hinde smile” comes to mind.
Some mates and I used to have a pub game about who would be best to have a good night out with. Generally the smart money was Keith Moon and Phil Lynott, then back to Ollie Reed’s with a few tins.
Back to the OP, romance aside I bet a good night down the pub with Sandy Denny would be fun.
Did I ever tell you about the time I stood up Annie Lennox?
Did you place a chill in her heart by doing this?
She never talked to me again, that’s for sure…
Sounds like a Yoga manoeuvre worthy of Sting!
When she moved to London how many postcards did I get? Less than zero, that’s how many
Form an orderly queue (behind me): Susanna Hoffs.
QI Klaxon!
I dream of being Matthew Sweet. Under the covers, indeed.
Esperanza, we’ve had our time. it was wonderful. But it’s over. It’s not you, it’s me. I couldn’t keep up.
Suzi Quatro. An earlier version of Chrissie Hynde.
Stop me if I’ve told this one before, but I once had a short but invigorating conversation with Suzi about a book called How to Make Love Like a Porn Star.
Wow. I would never have been able to hold such a conversation without turning a very dark shade of crimson.
1977 version Stevie Nicks, both her and I have eaten a few pies since then.
Also the same for Debbie Harry and I did get my face three feet away from her g-stringed arse, that was not so hidden by a see through black skirt one night at The Jazz Cafe Camden. I was sitting down and she was standing up. It may have been been the most exciting 45 seconds of the ’90’s for me!
COR! Pictures or it didn’t happen.
I’m agree: Stevie (in the OGWT video for Rhiannon) and Debbie (in her Andy Warhol’s Bad t-shirt). I’d also vote for Emmylou Harris (at any age), Rickie Lee Jones (in the Chuck E’s In Love video, where she is the coolest creature who ever lived), and a pre-beer Jim Morrison (what?).
I had a similar experience with Mo Tucker and her gusset.
By the way Vim, how goes it? Haven’t seen you for years?
Keyboard was jammed with playdoh.
Told you before – careful with the playdoh!
As the site’s token redneck, I thought I would sit the whole Brexit thing out. As a politics junkie though, it is like being a dog with two willies at the moment. Bizarrely, the thing that made me come back was Freddiesteady posting in the “lines from children’s books” saying he would be amazed and thrilled if anyone knew the title of the book he was quoting from. I have the book, loved it as a nipper, and was bursting to tell him.
Well just make sure to stick around…
@vim-fuego
And I am eternally grateful Mr Bad News.
Just haven’t had the chance to order the book, got a new dog you know!
Re the Op. Kirsty Wark.
For me there are three Tina Turner, Joni Mitchell and Whitney Houston.
Kate Bush (and I haven’t given up hope)
“…blond, tattooed, beautiful, fragile, immaculate and stunningly talented….” you say?
That can only mean Gregg Allman. Sigh.
Another vote for Emmylou. My first date with the future Mrs. T was to see Emmy at the Bristol Hippodrome in 1976….front row seats, the now current Mrs. T reckons I was transfixed. I still would….
Gaye Advert — still gorgeous today.. 🙂 FWIW I used to work with Adverts drummer Laurie Driver (3rd from left) at a posh London florists shop back in 1980 ish ..believe it or not.. no? .. looks for coat .. and door
I concur.
I had a big crush on GA as a punky teen -pretty sure I had a Record Mirror pin up on my wall. I think the appeal was that she was gorgeous but bashful, but had the front to get up on stage regardless. None more punk & a great role model for the punkettes.
Shelby, you claim you were sitting by the phone and pacing all night long, but you didn’t pick up the bloody receiver when I called. Gutted.
Vim you and I may need to settle this with pistols at dawn. She does it for me too.
Should I lose the duel then Natalie Merchant or outside of music Victoria Coren.
Assuming of course that Halle Berry is otherwise engaged.
Just me and Anne Marit Katzenjammer, then…
No need for Lucinda to be blonde either.
I’ve been running through all the usual suspects, but then I remembered rather falling in love with Lisa Hannigan and her funny harmonium thing on Jools Holland.
I thought Nick Drake’s “Black-eyed Dog” was uncoverable until I heard Ms Hannigan’s version of the song as part of the “Way to Blue” tribute concert in 2010. Incredible.
Even though I mostly can’t understand a thing she’s singing, Julie Fowlis looks very appealing to me.
In our house this discussion – I am not joining in here mind – is known as the ‘milk bath lady’ topic after Martin’s retelling on Friday Night Dinner of a dream in which he was having said bath with Princess Diana.
Forgot Grace Slick
Good to see you’re staying faithful to the older generation. 😉
there was also PP Arnold but Im not Robinson Crusoe there.
Are we not going to hear from the laydeez on this subject?
Well, Fatima nominated Gregg Allman.
I did think about this for quite a while, and teenage me would have drawn up a list (Weller, Drake, Johnny McElhone from Altered Images).
Now I think they’re all TOO MUCH BLOODY TROUBLE.
If you’re twisting my arm I will say Gene Clark and Paul Smith (Maximo Park) but certainly in the case of the former, still too much bloody trouble. 🙂
You need a grown up, mature, sensible, balanced rock star. OK, fair enough. I can’t think of any either. Reminds me of the old joke:
Small boy: Mummy, when I grow up I want to be a guitarist
Mummy: You know you can’t be both…
Hah, not heard that one.
Back in the day, boy + guitar was catnip to me but I have learnt my lesson. Trouble. #notallguitarists
Yup, my thought exactly when I pondered the question. Too much trouble.
Then I thought of my favourite, Jeff Tweedy (I don’t mind a cuddly man…), but he’s got a lovely family so it felt inappropriate to nominate him! 😀
Digging him up would indeed be a right faff.
In a moment of weakness I think I could probably have my arm twisted by Emmylou if she promised not to tell Mrs Path.
Obviously “lover” is out of the question, but if Marisa Tomei ever made a record, I’d be up for brunch …. although I hear she’s more into quirky, funny, short bald men..
A crush of mine when I was almost certainly too young and innocent to know what I might have been getting into.
Eartha Kitt as Catwoman.
.
One of the most beautiful women to walk the earth, and with the voice of an angel. Another vote for Emmylou, who made a lasting impression in the mid 70s on the pre-bald teenage Nigel.
When I was a teenager Sally Thomsett made me weak at the knees. She had this knowing “you might think I’m dumb but I know your brain is turning to blancmange” thing in “Man about the house” – a “woke” series ahead of its time where the man in question has rings run around him by the two women (I heard apparently it’s no longer permissible to say “girls”).

Most viewed thread of the week… I wonder why that is
Other threads less interesting?
About 50% of recent AW threads unread, currently. My new AW policy is to resist reading what doesn’t interest me.
Not complaining.
And another vote for the 1977 version of Ms Nicks here.
I shall never forget seeing them at The Rainbow – we had seats in the middle of the front row and she floated on stage in some sort of diaphanous nightgowny type thing.
That was when the post Peter Green incarnation of Fleetwood Mac were at the height of their powers.
If only I hadn’t written in green crayon !
