Last time I culled my collection was back in 1997 when I moved to Vietnam and had to send half of my then 700 CD collection and all of my 500 or so albums back to the UK. Life was so much simpler back then!
When I moved to Ireland eight years ago, I collated everything before I shipped them back from Asia and also got all my LPs and what of the CDs that hadn[t been half-inched by my niece and nephew sent across from the UK.
Picking stuff out at random from my shelves, I can see it’s high time I did another major cull.
Fairly easy to prune more esoteric impulse purchases such as Jad Fair and Daniel Johnston (a title I very much doubt whether I have played more than once in the 15 or so years since I owned it).
Deciding on whether or not to Oxfam apparently worthier choices like the two David Ackles CDs I own and haven’t played in about 10 years is a bit more problematic
So how do you guys decide on what to keep and what not to keep?
More importantly, have you ever dumped a CD only to experience an insatiable urge to dig it out and play it a few days/weeks/months later only to find it’s taken up residence next to Robbie Williams in the local Sue Ryder Shop?
