Venue:
The Rescue Rooms, Nottingham
Date: 20/08/2018
Fabulous night watching Courtney and a very accomplished 4-piece band (gtr/bass/drums/keys). She has a beautiful voice and calm presence. The voice is reminiscent of Emmylou Harris at times, but that is no bad thing. She is no copyist, and the material is really strong. She can also be soulful and raw.
She showed her indie/rock influences at times, strapping on a 335 for some of the later numbers, as well as playing piano.
Material was focused on the latest album and also an Honest Life (Title track as a solo encore), great versions of Long Road Back To You, Two Cold Nights In Buffalo, Rough round the Edges, Kindness Of Strangers etc. Also a good version of ‘Chain of Fools’ as an Aretha tribute.
Fantastic night, great performance, great atmosphere, devoted and enthusiastic audience. What more do you need.
The audience:
A mixture of ages, quite a lot of couples of various age range. Very warm and receptive. Devotees who knew the lyrics and materials.
Minor Note: One pair were unfortunately removed by bouncers early on, she was drunk, shouting, talking and harassing other members of crowd. He was belligerent with rather large bouncer.
It made me think..
Nottingham has some great venues for smaller/medium sized shows. It’s a shame I have to drive 50 miles from W. Midlands to see quality acts in quality venues. CMA is going to be big soon.

Yes she’s great – her concert in Liverpool earlier this year was superb.
How did I do that?
I like Ms Adams better…
Names were changed to protect the innocent. You ain’t seen us, right?
Can’t post emojis, so ROFL ! Thanks to mods for correcting my strange error.
Saw her on the main stage at Green Man at the weekend, and was very impressed. I was later lucky enough to chance upon her doing a rather more intimate mini gig at the Rough Trade tent.
One of the best acts of the festival.
Whats that Green Man like @RedLemon ? Keen to find somewhere new for next year.
It was my second year, and I enjoyed it a lot. Headliners a bit off for me but plenty to keep me entertained. Tends to rain, but not this year.
Main stage and must be unique for visibility from more or less anywhere in the arena. Has large screens.
Secondary stage tends to have more interesting bands, is covered and also has large screens so again, great visability.
Campervan field is not that big and sells out really quickly.
um…
I’ve been a fan of End Of The Road for the last 8 years or so, and GM is nearly as good. Bigger headliners, but less good down the bill IMO. I’ll probably do both every year now if I can.
