This time it’S the pirates’s favourite – R
Anything, be it musical, litereary, cinematic, televisual, artistic – is much appreciated.

Dante Gabriel Rossetti with an ill-advised mis(s)adventure with a Chapman Stick…
To start, here’s Rammstein – Rosenrot – love their teutonic sensationalism.

Angelo Badalamenti – Rose’s Theme
Unashamedly soppy . but gentle and touching, none the less
Bauhaus – Rosegarden Funeral Of Sores
Preposterous fun – can’t be denied they put their all into their art
Rosenstolz.-.Ich.Bin.Ich
Great tribute to friendship through adversity

Such fun – a cross between Grease and Rushmore in its enthusiastic high school antics

One day I’ll get you lot listening to Nino Rota’s soundtracks for Fellini’s films. Gorgeous sunny melody exquisitely orchestrated – little jazz combo, strings, brass, accordion, what’s not to like?
R is for Ry
and Randy
And one more from me, Australia’s greatest singer, Renee Geyer. She’s been singing this since she was about 18, she’s now in her 60’s and as good as ever.
The Rover, a wonderful but disturbing Australian movie. Guy Pearce delivers an excellent performance as he seeks revenge.
Rodriguez – a great documentary “Searching for Sugar Man” about 2 South African fans attempting to track him down

Has an Afterworder ever achieved the ultimate accolade, a mention on the Compendium?
Time for us to honour that Prince of the Pakora, that Flirt from the Yurt, Silver Surfer of Cyberspace, that Phantom of the Thin Places and pin up of boho chicks from Brisbane to Barnsley.
Rob C!
Rico Rodriguez
Let’s have a blast from the Cuban-born master trombonist, well known from his years with the Special AKA and his own classic instrumental roots and dub albums.
Roy Budd’s theme for “Get Carter”, obviously.
The Ramsey Lewis Trio “Wade In The Water”
Richie Havens “The Parable Of Ramon”

Robert Crumb as Jan Lööf drew him, everybody knows Robert Crumb’s style, so, I thought that it might be interesting for our fellow swedish afterworders to see a strip that depict him by the author of Skrot-Nisse.
I noticed many similarities in his style, but the personal of Hellstone (who sell some of his art when they don’t sell guitars) don’t agree with me…
What do you think ?

Renegade Soundwave were a key early influence on my tastes (and those of the Chemical Brothers apparently) from the electronic side of things.
From the sample-heavy electro menace of “Kray Twins”
through the White Riot-sampling Acidic rush of “The Phantom”
to the dub workouts like “Women Respond To Bass”
Sticking with the R theme, Recommended.
Rumble Fish by Stan Ridgway (and Steward Copeland):
Ringo Starr by Jan Lööf:

Here’s Abba! (I’ve got some catching up to do …)
Am helping you along with Abba’s Ring Ring! Check out those outfits – I think that Agnetha has on previously uninvented leg ware with those orange flappy things.
A little known blues band, formed in London in 1962.
Couple of hits in the 60s – wonder what became of them
Rolling Stones

Right Said Fred
Each of these is *an* An R, how about “The R”, from Eric B and Rakim?
Couldn’t find this remix on YouTube so just gave myself a ten minute crash course in Windows MovieMaker and uploaded it.
(“The R” (Dave Dorrell and CJ Macintosh remix) – Eric B and Rakim)
Rabbitt – Charlie. Trevor Rabin’s (him from Yes) first band.

Seeing as they were mentioned in the OP…this is the pre-Annie Haslam version of the band and the track that attracted my attention when it appeared on the Bumpers compilation LP.
The Prefab Four:
The Rutles
Ratledge….
…and here’s a picture of the great man himself…..
Zoot Horn Rollo – We Saw A Bozo Under The Sea.

“Rhinos, Winos and Lunatics: The legend of Man – a rock ‘n’roll band” by Deke Leonard
If you haven’t read it already, you’re missing a treat.
…and talking of Man……here’s Romain…
Title track of a great album.
(Terry Reid – River)
The least AW-friendly band ever, I reckon, but I have a guilty soft spot for Rancid. Yes, they are derivative rubbish, but they are so passionately and completely committed to being derivative rubbish that it goes full circle and becomes great fun
I actually meant to post this one. Like any of you are going to watch either of them.

I heard and liked “David Courtney” on a Kerrang covermount years ago.
Not enough to go and investigate further admitedly, but they’re hardly on their own on that score.
The greatest record to ever mention cheese on toast
The life of a repo man is always intense…
Ritual….
….De Lo Habitual
Longtime cyberstalkers of mine will know of my devotion to the novels of Robertson Davies. They are marvellous works, erudite and entertaining with a tantalising undercurrent of mysticism, with the happy knack of making you feel cleverer than you really are for the duration of your reading. His Deptford & Cornish Trilogies have given me some of the greatest pleasure I have ever had reading books. He died almost twenty years ago, and I suspect he may be beginning to slide into obscurity, but do yourself a favour and pick one up. You won’t regret it. (AW favourite Chris Brookmyre is also clearly a fan).
Another vote for the Deptford Trilogy. Mind blowingly great writing throughout.
Me too. One of my favourite authors.
Rickenbacker 4003 bass, the finest bass ever designed….IMHO….
Two Rs for the price of one…..
Robert Wyatt
Rock bottom
@kid-dynamite I’m reading Deptford at the moment and picked up Cornish yesterday. Your praise of them was the reason I sought them out. Incidentally, they don’t seem to be on Kindle.
Good for you! Hope you’re enjoying it – I suppose you must be or you wouldn’t have picked up a second?
Roberto Rivelino…..
Immortalised in a Colemanballs “Rivellino – this wonderful Brazilian bender…”
No REM yet? A bit obvious I suppose.
Anyway, I was answering a questionnaire in the week and one of the questions was “What’s your favourite music video?” and I went for this.
(“Imitation of Life” – R.E.M)
Midlake – “Roscoe” (Beyond The Wizard’s Sleeve Remix(
Richard Hell
Pugh Rogefeldt, the man, the myth, the musical genius.
Här Kommer Natten:
(sorry if I posted Pugh under P already, but he’s good enough to post twice)
Reebop Kwaku Bah…..
All the way down here and no mention of ROXY MUSIC yet……
The temptation/instinct (for me at least) is always to delve into the back catalogue for these alphabetical threads, so here’s something a bit more contemporary.
(“Sicko” – Rex The Dog)
Rostropovich plays Rachmaninov
Cello Sonata, 1st Movement
Rufus!
