Now, the next node in the notebook of naming nurtured (musical) numbers, novels, etc.
Here we go, everybody! Another fortnight of clips as the letter ‘n’ proudly presents itself for your inspiration and ridicule.

To my shame, the only artwork connected to the letter ‘n’ I could find was the cover of Rio, by Patrick Nagel – I’m sure there are others?

And here’s a song that should be uncontroversial:

  9. Nostalgia For The Light: I wrote a review of this for the old site. It was the first time I had contributed to the home page – it’s the kind of film that makes you want to tell everyone about it..

    • That looks and sounds like an amazing meditation on eternity and human impermanence – fascinating to bring two such weighty subjects together in one film, with the commen link of location. I will look out for it – thanks, @sewer-robot!

      • I expected nothing less. That said, from what I’ve been told at gigs, there aren’t actually that many nyckelharpas in existence; the demand is way exceeding the limited supply at present. I trust Mrs d is using her scarce resource well!

        • Every fall in Sweden the catalogues for evening classes comes through the letterbox. I haven’t read them in years, but I remember from when I was young that there would always be evening classes on “How to build your own nyckelharpa”.

    Poorly serviced by the BBC Archives – 3 compilations cherry picking the best of the 4 series.
    There is more there – however, similar to the playing of the full Top Of The Pops archive, would releasing more of the shows taint the memory in that being satirical, lots of it wouldn’t age that well?
    Ah well, the memory kinda lingers I suppose:

    Night, It Happened One

    A film where the sheer force of the personalities on screen effortlessly burn through the ancient celluloid it was recorded on and resonates decades beyond its release.

    • Fine postings, @rigid-digit. I’m going to have to reevaluate Slade – I thought they were a one note, gimmick band – some sophistication here. I like how Dave Hill looks so young.
      I let youtube run on after this song, and it came up with some fine other Slade songs I ‘d never heard before, including this one where their image looks quite different. Dave Hill as punk rocker this time?

  55. Thanks all – another entertaining ride through the musical and other offerings of one letter of the alphabet. Quite nice that it didn’t have the high profile of’M’.
