The graphics are stupendous and quite heart-wrenching.
Mona Miari is something else. What a voice! And the subtitles do a magnificent job of telling us what she is singing about.
And then we get to Rog. His involvement means this clip will get many thousands more listens. Respect to him for his very sincere support for the Palestinian cause, but musically Mona is doing all the heavy lifting. His contribution is rather Leonard Cohen Lite. Sorry. That was cruel,
Black Type is right of course. The Scissor Sisters did the definitive cover.
But I do hope this gets many listens and generates a lot of discussion.
Yes, Mona has a beautiful, evocative voice. I’d happily listen to her singing it all the way through rather than have Rog speak-singing his new lyrics, some of which are not his best work (although, as you said, more people will watch it thanks to his contribution).
The original version of CN is still the best, but I did like the 2022 post-lockdown version that he did ahead of a tour. It’s wonderfully atmospheric, and this video matches it perfectly:
I think The Lockdown Sessions is a really good album. I especially like the version of Mother.
