Steely Dan – The Royal Scam. All of it except “Everything You Did”.
Thad Jones – The Magnificent Thad Jones. Specifically for “April In Paris”.
Oliver Nelson – The Blues And The Abstract Truth. For “Stolen Moments”.
Bubbling under: Horace Silver Quintet – Song For My Father.
Charles Mingus – Mingus Ah Um.
So many others …
Hawks and Doves is a surprising choice. It doesn’t seem very popular among Young fans and rarely gets mentioned. I’m not a Young fan, but I bought it the week it was released out of curiosity. I was very disappointed with my purchase and would happily have swapped it for something else were it not for Little Wing, which is gorgeous. I was never tempted to buy another Young album until I heard Harvest Moon, which I really like.
The Fontana album is brilliant isn’t it! Great mix of singles and superb songs, a bit unfairly maligned at the time due it’s smooth production. It’s aged really well though.
Otis Blue (Otis Redding, obvs.)
King of the Delta Blues Singers (Robert Johnson)
Sketches of Spain, In A Silent Way, Kind of Blue (Miles)
The Earth is not a Cold Dead Place (Explosions in the Sky)

Good call on Oliver Nelson. **Reaches for vinyl**
I love the front cover of “The Magnificent Thad Jones”, with a very cool-looking TJ feeding the pigeons in Times Square. Marvellous.

The Earth is not a Cold Dead Place (Explosions in the Sky)

I’ve noticed that some correspondents just post the titles, while others post the title and the artist(s). H’mmm…I wonder why?
Coolcats know who the artists are without being told.
Squares, however ..
Not sure I can narrow it down to specific albums but the following
Teenage Fanclub
Prefab Sprout
Pet Shop Boys
Astral Weeks
Eldorado
Vagabonds of the Western World
Eldorado? Well, that could be the ELO album or the Neil Young EP…
It’s the ELO album.
That one could easily be on my list. It’s an escape into a dream world. Brilliant record.
And all but forgotten, which is a shame.
Too many, but here’s three –
