I love loads of ’70’s/’80’s American rock. I mean the well produced, big harmonies, great songs, AOR American rock. As a Springsteen/Dawes/Big Big Train/Tedeschi Trucks/Hall & Oates/Ian Hunter fan it gets me into lots of good arguments about what constitutes good music. My response is always “couldn’t give a feck,” which tends to wind people up even more.
So, come on then. Let’s ‘ave it…

It’s not very often at all Queensryche get a mention in here. I seem to remember Silent Lucidity being played by the band at a Cup Final once?

Genius!
Great, great song. Might not fit the brief but, feck it.
The harmonies at the end make up for it !!
My go-to Heart song.
I daren’t play it because I think that’s the one which contains the line, ‘funny how your feet, in dreams, never touch the earth’. English is a very forgiving language when it comes to syntax, but that pushes it beyond breaking point. Actually the full horror doesn’t reveal itself when it’s written like that.
Mine…love the video – the back lit back combed hair, the long coats, the exploding piano…
WHOOOOAAAAAH BODYFOR-OOORM!! BODYFORM FOR YOOOU…..
Oh dear, it’s “rollerblade week”, guys…
A great song. One we know well. But I never knew who it was by, until now.
I also did not know until now just how much I wanted to play a pointy headed guitar, ensconced between Palladian pillars. Such class. Sophisticate.
I must try this at home.
“Where’s your guitar?”
“Between two pillars”
“THOSE AREN’T PILLARS!”
Bri, where are you?
Who needs Bri when Nial is off on one?
Blimey! I not only own the album this is on but have a picture disc of it AND the EP that came with the regular vinyl when I bought it in New York in 1981. Love this thread!
A bit of Big Star is always welcome
Shit, I bloody love this song.
Great video too!
I was in a bar last night and this came on. Still does it for me. Arguably the best track 2 of any album ever
Yup, great song.
Journey at their very best:
At their best they were a fantastic band.
Funny. I was just playing your video when this came up on the iPod. Spooky. I love a big old, overblown ballad.
Far too much Journey in this thread so it’s high time for:
some Mister Mister (a classic slice of mid 80s cheese).
having a laugh at Mr Coverdale (in his total pillock period).
Great songs both.
Can’t believe your Journey didn’t include this AOR staple. Strangely, and for reasons I know not, maybe the Badly Drawn Boy cover, I love it.
Over on a site I occasionally contribute to, mainly with folk on the other side of the pond, the loathing of this song seems absolute, due to it’s ubiquity, so I was deemed odd for saying I had a soft spot for it.
I deliberately avoided it retro. It is my all time favourite Journey song – I wore out 2 copies of the single – so I wanted to give a few others an airing. I’m glad you put it into the list. Steve’s amazing voice, and that bass. Epic.
I think this qualifies as it features Steve Vai. Adrian Vandenberg might pout on the video but he ain’t on it.
