The man who came from a Land Down Under, despite still sounding the Saltcoats boy he truly is…
A very enjoyable night out. I wondered, as the Paris attacks were unfolding at the start, if he would address the issue. And he did, by making a very short statement about Paris, and launching into Beautiful World.
He’s a raconteur as much as he is a singer/songwriter. Very personal stories, often leavened with a great punchline at the end or something gentle to make you smile. His voice is clearly not what it was, but the way he maximizes what he has is incredible. It’s a voice full of a life lived, of character, and he marshals his resources so that when he really needs a powerful higher note, he can get there.
The audience:
A mix, but generally your standard Birchmere crowd. Tending to middle aged and well heeled. Folks had traveled 50 miles plus in Friday rush hour to get here.
It made me think..
I wonder just how much therapy he has been or is going through. Some searingly honest revelations about his parents and his health that I’m not sure I would share with a close friend.
From all I have heard about Jackie Leven live, this was it again. Song, chat, jokes, stories… Wonderful night out

Funny, I was thinking about him only yesterday, out of the blue. I saw him live once – brilliant.
Terrific account of what sounds like a perfect night’s entertainment. I shall hope that he crosses my path one day soon, and I will make the effort to go and see him if he does.
Never bothered to see him though all accounts I read tend to be like Bargies.
Could be coz I hated men at work.
