Good old Black Lace. Back in the 80’s during their imperial phase a guy who used to roadie for them lived two houses down from my gran. I used to see them both regularly, always wearing those bright red and yellow jump suits. They once waved at me as they drove past in their tour van. I was going to give them the “wankers” gesture but instead could only manage a limp wave back. Rock n Roll eh?.
For some reason, I checked out their Wikipedia page recently – seems there were several warring versions of ‘the Lace’ going around Europe looking for chickens in baskets in recent years.
Yes, you see, this is where the ‘Word’s usual sorrowful thoughts n’ prayers response to Pop Death (“what a terrible year” etc.) is shown to be a tissue of convenience (or something). The man brought guileless pleasure to millions (well, thousands) but because he’s not on the ‘Word List of Seriousness his death is reduced to a joke. I’m not going to pretend to be personally affected by his or any other Pop Death, but you might at least be consistent. And stop sniggering at the back there.
Apart from the “he might have been awful but he made some fantastic records” aspect.
I think I still have my best man’s copy of the Black Lace Party Party album. One of them, anyway, and definitely contains ‘Party’ in the album title, and both Superman and I Am The Music Man in the tracklisting. He gave me his records for safe-keeping when he moved to Australia 28 years ago, and they’ve stayed in the box ever since.

R.I.P.P.P.
Local to me, saw them drinking in the pub occasionally luckily not performing.
I remember their appearance on The Old Grey Whistle Test as a highlight of comedic television.
A superb appearance in Rita, Sue and Bob too.

“Their imperial phase”
*applause* (for the rest of ur-Word comment, too!)

Chumbawamba rated them:
Very sad news for his family and friends, but – and I realise I’m going straight to hell – my first thought was “Push pine box…to the left” etc.
I’m so sorry.

Agree
Reece S and Steve P’s recreation of the Superman dance
on Psychoville is a far more fitting tribute
Wasn’t he convicted of sexual activity with an under-age girl?
Another member Colin Routh
Same person – he changed his name to Gibb.
This thread has taken a very similar turn to the Steve Albini one it seems. Rock n Roll eh?

I’ve probably had more fun to Superman than the entire canon of Steve Albini’s work though. Not sure I should admit to that round here though.
If only Nirvana’s All Apologies had had a choreographed dance…
Weddings would not be the same.
