A quick recommendation if you’re looking for something to unwind with at the end of a long week. I didn’t really get Colin from Accounts when the Massive and many others were raving about the earliest episodes but I’m glad I stuck with it. The second series was better than the first and, a great rarity, the third and final series which has just been released is better than that. You know the drill – heartwarming, engaging characters, genuinely laugh out loud funny. Grab the alcoholic or non alcoholic beverage of your choice and put your feet up for a TV treat. All episodes now on iPlayer in the UK.

Watched it all and most excellent it is/was.
Indeed. Me and Mrs Path consumed it all, over 2 nights, ahead moseying over to Apple, where “Gordy” is an embittered ex-cop with a missing, presumed dead daughter. Last Seen. It’s good if discombobulating to see him play such a different part.
Yes, I dipped a toe into Last Seen last night. It’s going to be a gruelling ride I think, but Bramall is excellent in it.
And of course CFA was just great. As always the world-class fucking-up skill was much in evidence – in fact we bailed from the last 10 mins of the penultimate episode because we couldn’t cope with the idea of yet another shouty bar breakup – but when we watched it next day it was all resolved with such skill and charm.
My small dog loses her stick at the beach to any dog that challenges her for it. One tactic I have is to throw the stick into the sea because a surprising number of dogs don’t seem to like swimming, whereas my dog loves it.
A dog with wheels instead of hind legs approached last week. I call this dog Colin From Accounts as per the show. So I threw the stick into the sea. CFA didn’t care and bounded into the water and snatched the stick. It was quite amusing.
I came home and said that the dog “lost her stick to Colin From Accounts”. I said that I didn’t think he’d actually jump in and get it. Mrs BC knew what I meant but my daughter couldn’t have been more puzzled, which is fair enough.
Unfortunately, the dog playing Colin appears to be able-bodied, thus depriving a genuine paraplegic canine from the part.
Even worse, there’s two of them!!
The part with the spider reminded me why l don’t visit Australia. Yikes.
That’s very on-brand, given your name.
The name is because of the comics, which l love. Spiders – I am very scared of, especially the big beasts.
Spidey’s arch nemesis is the Green Goblin, according to the internet. Doesn’t sound like the most fearsome of foes but I’m sure he’s a bad ‘un.
Yes, third and final series is terrific. Great music, including perfectly placed Nick Cave song.
We both love the show, thought the final series charming, wonderfully written and acted, and as funny as fuck.
On the basis of the recommendations here and elsewhere, I’ve just started watching it, and I expect I’ll be bingeing it all in short order.
The Derry Girls is the TV show that has made me laugh more than any other (I’ve watched some episodes so many times that I expect I could recite them from memory), but four episodes in, CfA is probably on course to be in my top five: “The lamp’s alive!”, “You’re not the first person to cry down there”, the dying nan’s final words, etc. – wonderful writing and faultless performances all round.
Like The Derry Girls, it has warm, interesting characters whom you want to see overcoming their problems and doing well, despite their occasional mis-steps (I laughed myself silly at the bedside drawers incident). But it has the added treat of Aussie humour, which has a bit of edge and naughtiness that you rarely get with British sitcoms, and even less often with mainstream US ones.
I’m looking forward to the rest of the episodes, and I hope all concerned are showered with awards, if they haven’t been already.
Just started to re-watch the first series.
Just watched episode 1 of series 3 and both Mrs M and me agreed needs completing asap. the gag about the sperm donor bringing round a child’s football shirt (presumably Aussie rules shirt?) has a gold-star punchline. And the visual builds on the wine drinking in car/blanket scene are just beautiful.
Genuinely the best romsitcom in years with legit sniffly tears at the end. Reminded me of Spaced without the goofiness – would love to know if it was an influence, up to and including the titular dog.
Mrs Wells binged it. I found there were too many “ awkward situations”. I have enough awkwardidity in my everyday life without needing it sitting in my chair of an evening.
Halfway through series 3 now and very entertaining it is too. One thing niggles me a bit. Their current partners are awful people and, unsurprisingly, cracks are showing in both relationships. Both main characters are direct and funny – so I find it hard to believe they would stand for that.
I think it would be more interesting to have the current partners as lovely people, so when the inevitable happens – the breakups are more heartbreaking.
