I heard this on the radio the other day, and the verse chord sequence sounded familiar. After thinking about it, I realised it had the same sequence as ‘It’s Over’ by Scott Walker from the album ‘Til the Band Comes In’. What I’d like to know is if anyone can think of other songs with the same sequence, as it is still ringing a bell with me.

The descending chord sequence in the verse reminds me of Sweet Talking’ Guy by the Chiffons.

I detect a bit of the chorus of My Way in the verse.

Reminds me of this…

This is of course a very commonly used sequence, the bass descending in semitones.
This often produces a chord pattern akin to C, Em, C7, F, Fm, C/G, G, C.
Janis Ian’s “Stars” is reminiscent but takes a slightly more circular route with C, Em/B, G/Bflat, A, Dm, F/Csharp, F/C, G…

Very common. The verses of Save Your Kisses For Me, by Brotherhood Of Man sadly come to mind.

This is the one I was reminded of.

Bob Dylan’s “A Simple Twist Of Fate”, perhaps?

Which means it’s definitely pinched from somewhere else.
