Someone from this crew has recently joined the reformed Cockney Rejects. This is their new single. Do any of us have ‘previous’ with the ‘Sparrer?

Musings on the byways of popular culture
Rigid Digit says
First heard on Oi The Album – there was something more to the sound than “Oi Oi Oi, Fighting On The Terraces”.
The one album I do own – Running Riot in 84 – is more tuneful/melodic (?) than much of yer standard Oi/Skinhead stuff, but it’s not one I regularly re-visit.
Pretty sure I saw them on a Butlins Bill alongside Cockney Rejects, Peter & The Test Tube Babies, and Angelic Upstarts.
But … a re-appraisal? probably not
(although I am going to give that album a spin for the first time in probably 20 years)

If Rigid does play that record it must surely be the first time that any Oi! album has been felt the touch if a stylus since, well the last time he played the record. Does anyone listen to Oi! anymore apart from maybe Garry Bushell?

I’ve got a lot of the Sparrer’s stuff. Brilliant band.

It’s a good tune – and sentiment – isn’t it? Amazingly, 4 or the 5 members have been there since 1972. Yes, Cock Sparrer have been going for 52 years (with a couple of breaks. Who knew?

Bizarrely, I’m pretty sure I saw them support the Small Faces in April 1977 which would make them the first punk band I saw, the second being The Clash a couple of weeks later.

Reminded of Sunday Stripper, must have been on one of those compilation albums. Great song.
