It’s Monday, clock-in day for the Chubby Checkers. I won’t dock the pay of anyone who doesn’t fancy punching their card (ooer missus), but you should really let us all know that you’re still a line-worker in the Checker Factory. (Nope, I have no idea how this analogy started and where it’s going, but hey, I’ll just post the Rose Royce – Funk Factory video and have done with it…)
Check in below!

EXERCISE – Slightly embarrassing. Pulled a muscle in my general ribcage area. Not when I was swimming, or cycling, or walking, or playing squash. No. When I was getting out of bed. Been doing things very gingerly for a few days, and I’m not even a redhead.
FOOD – Healthy eating continues. And Hairy Dieters Book 3 has arrived in the post and will be utilised this week.
DRINK – Still alcohol free, remaining on the wagon despite plans for a free pass on Saturday night, as my slightly crippling getting-out-of-bed injury ensured my non-attendance at a big family party.
SPIN, SPIN, SPIN THE SCALES OF JUSTICE, SEE HOW FAST THE BASTARD TURNS – Lost 1lb bringing the total to 11lbs.
MISCELLANEOUS – I’ve really missed not being able to exercise over the last few days. Who would have thunk it?
“General ribcage area”.
Hurrrrr
I feel a right tit, now.
A much better performance from the Romford branch of the CC group this week. Since we began I lost and then re-established the same few pounds but can now report that in total, I am 4 pound lighter than I was on day 1. It’s a key milestone as it puts me back in the 14s.
So no booze in the last week, avoided mixing carbs and proteins and had a few glasses of stuff from the juicer machine that turned up in the house at Christmas as breakfast.
Exercise wise, we’ve started to walk again (began the capital ring yesterday) and I’ve started taking the stairs at work. We have lots of stairs and although I’ve only started walking down them rather than up, it’s a start.
Feeling much more positive now that January is behind us.
Thanks again to Drakey for the inspiration. I think we can all agree that your injury should be reclassified as a “sporting injury”. It’ll look better in the press.
Excellent, @martin-s. You said January was going to be difficult, but if you’ve ended up 4lbs lighter, then that’s a good result.
And yes, of course, I remember now, I injured myself doing a triathlon!
A reasonably good week.
FOOD: Going along well. This week’s target is at least two servings of protein a day (settle down at the back). So I predict an egg-bound week.
I had miso soup last night and I can confirm, contrary to last week’s claim, that soup really is not a meal.
EXERCISE: : Good. Lots of walking and dancing, the usual rehab. Knees are not good so this week will be upper body; pull-ups, hooray.
I don’t normally weigh myself but we had to fix the scales for my son’s homework project (fix= get new batteries). I decided to have a look , for curiosity…. and I weigh the same as I ever have. I fluctuate about 7 pounds either way so it’s nice to be smack bang in the middle of that range. I seem to have a set point, which is good I guess although I doubt very much I will hit the lower end of that again, last seen about 5 years ago.
So I dunno, holding steady, I guess. Sleep is still a problem.
Hope your injury is better soon, Drakey!
I can feel spring coming, which always lifts the spirits and puts a bit of a brake on comfort eating.
“I predict an egg-bound week”. That sounds like a real threat to the nostrils. Good to see the exercises are going well – and you’re right, Spring being sprung is a mood-changer. But the sleep thing sounds a pain…
Thanks, yes it is a real pain, but mainly poor habits, which I need to sort out. Soon.
Won’t be back in France until Wed so, darn it, no weigh-in for me this week. I can confidently predict however that two (count them, two) pub lunches in the Walberswick Bell and a thoroughly rewarding tasting of Adnams Finest will have no effect on my CC Weight (yeah, right).
Lots of long and wonderful walks along the beach and through the reedbeds will have helped although Saturday’s hike was completed in a freezing Force 32 gale and I seem to have contracted man-flu as a result.
Now, where’s the last of that Pork pie?
Were you walking at a 45 degree angle in that wind? (That’s what @rubyblue‘s family will be doing this week with all those eggs she’s eating…)
Get better soon.
The Bell…crabbing and then a couple of pints and some Whitebait. Fab!
Another no-punch week for me please. I’ve been on my back with a bloody horrible fever thing all week and when I have eaten, it’s been quick easy crap.
I’ll be back in harness next week.
You think you’ve got a horrible fever thing? THIS is a horrible fever thing…

Lost 3.2lb in the last two weeks, I’ll have been seeing my nutritionalist for a year at the beginning of March and in that time I’ll have lost about 3 stone, I’d already lost 11lbs over the 6 months prior to my first appointment. I’m delighted!
Next weigh in won’t be until 4th March as we’re off to Singapore and Myanmar for a couple of weeks from Friday, it’ll be hard work keeping the weight off but at least I’m blesssed in not having a sweet tooth.
Fantastic, @neil-dyson. No wonder you’re delighted. If at any point you fancy posting a photo of your before your weight loss and after, please do!
I shall design* (*Google Image Search) a special trophy for your 3 stone mark, so keep us posted.
Good afternoon,
I’m still here. Last weeks reported Belgian beer and chocolate-fuelled bloat has dissipated. I can’t report a loss because I don’t weigh myself (so the coveted 7 rosette will never be mine) though I feel better.
I have a dodgy knee. Every so often the ligament at the back will tighten as I speed walk up and down the hill to the station (my main exercise effort) and I do an involuntary Jack Douglas impression ‘Eh! Oh, Hey, give over!’ and bounce off a hedge.
I know. Shouldn’t joke unduly. Proper physio is booked. Depending what they say this may curtail such activity for a while.
Nevertheless, I’m with you.
We can’t live, if living is without you, @beezer.
Mr T(tortoise) checking in, but with little to report in truth.
Eating continues on a three meals a day, 1600 calories, no snacks and pretty much no booze basis. This has become a pretty established habit now and those desperate cravings (Well, hallo little chocolate bar, what a pretty thing you are!) have pretty much gone.
Exercise has been a bit hit and miss, as the weather has made both walking and gardening fairly hazardous occupations. However, the forecast for this week is better and I will get back to pounding the pavements, whilst giggling over old Word Podcasts.
Booze is pretty much knocked on the head at present. One night a week is all I allow myself, so it’s two G&Ts and my share of a bottle of wine on a Saturday night. Strangely enough, I have noticed that, on a Sunday morning, I have been feeling a tad woozy. Perhaps abstinence is lowering my threshold of pissed-ness.
Progress is hard to determine as I am following a less frequent approach to measurement. However, I feel good and my belt shows no sign of reverting to its former notch.
So, it’s going OK and, my friends, let us…
The continuation of healthier habits is something to report, @fifer. And ‘feeling good’ is definitely good.

I’m 6lbs down from when we started, so more than half way there! Couldn’t keep my prodigious step rate up now I’m back to the confines of normal life but still doing over 10k more days than not so that’s good news and paying dividends. Stick at it everyone, we can do it!
Whoop! Whoop! Well done, @tinysuns. A rosette is tantalisingly close…
Quite a good week. went for a swim and went to the gym too. Lost another lb, so happy with that.
Pondering getting one of yon fitbit things. Anyone with any positive or negatives?
I had the various versions of the Fitbit for a few years. I think they’re great if you are not the obsessional/competitive type; some of my friends were on the Fitbit online boards and getting verrrrry into it.
I had a clip-on version which cracked frequently and kept falling off; having said that, they have great customer service and will replace them. I think the newer ones may be wristbands (?) I think there has been some concern about the device not catching every step but I don’t think it’s a huge problem.
I liked it; was interesting to see how many (or few) steps a more sedentary day gets; it can track sleep, which was frankly scary; and you get a reasonable estimate of calorific output for the day. It syncs with food apps like My Fitness Pal or run/walk ones like Runkeeper or whatever if you want to go down the whole monitoring road.
I was given a Garmin wristband thingy as a present last year but it fell off my wrist on day 2 and I gave it all up as a bad job. I am too accident prone/clumsy to bother, really.
Once you have it set up on your computer it syncs really easily. Despite my caveats it’s a nice and useful gadget. (Oh and don’t put it in the wash, like I did, many times.)
Good work, @lando-cakes. I’ve got a Fitbit, and I like it. Whatever the accuracy, it’s great as a comparative tool. (hur hur). I can see at a glance if I’ve not walked very far, and it often makes me choose to walk to the shops instead of driving if I’ve not had a very active day. Or if I look at the weekly stats and I’m a bit below average, I’ll go for a long walk to get things back on track.
That’s just what I’m thinking, @drakeygirl – it’ll be a bit of an incentive. Anyway, suitably motivated, I’m off for a swim.
I’m going back quite a few years ago now, and it’s irrelevant, but this just reminded me of one Valentine’s Day.
I awoke to a massive wrapped box in the front room. It was full of smaller and smaller boxes, much like a Russian doll.
I get down to the last few boxes; smaller and smaller. Surely not…it can’t be. Is it? After all this time… Really?
It was a Fitbit. Of course it was.
It was actually a very nice gesture and very welcome but I had an ever-so-slightly strained smile that day.
😀
Something that could be viewed as an aid to changing your body shape? Very brave/foolish. Leave this reply lying around for your Valentine to stumble across: the only acceptable Valentine’s gift is an LP.
Aw bless him, to be fair, I did want one. Still doesn’t beat the packet of Crunch Creams in a pink box filled with pink tissue paper. Best present ever. Although perhaps the biscuits subsequently lead to the Fitbit….
It was very clever though….all those boxes.
Phone call from America a few years later….’I’m in Bloomingdales, next door to Tiffany’s….do you want something?’
Yes, I want you to go next door, to Tiffany’s.
Anyway, as ever, I digress. Yes, a Fitbit, get one. (They come in nice colours.)
We did the same when a friend got himself a new job.
Multiple boxes within boxes, the last one containing his leaving gift. A book on Irritable Bowel Syndrome.
Oh, that’s brilliant/terrible.
An acquaintance of mine left her job last year, where she had worked for decades. I went to the leaving do.
There was a huge box, wrapped extravagently. Inside there was a horrible sculpture in metal of some sort of goose. I really hope someone had some inside info that it was what she wanted. There was a micro-expression on her face that suggested not, however.
