It’s a bit cruel on a Bank Holiday Monday, I know, but this boat has a very slow turning circle, so the decision to lay down a weekly anchor was actually taken in 2015 and there’s nothing I can do to stop it. Principally because I never passed my maritime exams and I only really know how to steer.
In other words – please check in in the comments below.

EXERCISE – Missed one planned swim session but made up for it with a 100 lengther the next day (don’t, Moose, just don’t).
FOOD – Hearty, healthy fare.
DRINK – No booze, even though I went to four, count them, FOUR gigs this week (about the number I usually go to in a year!)
SCALES – Another week, another pound, making it 22 in total.
MISCELLANEOUS – Still a way to go, but I really don’t feel any urge to go back to my bad old habits.
Exercise: I didn’t get to walk quite as much this week as previous ones, but still covered 17 miles, which ain’t bad. And I routinely walk 6 miles a day just at work, so that’s on top of that.
Food: I’m still racking up a slightly nutty caloric deficit, but I feel great and I’m not going hungry. I realise the rate at which weight is dropping off me right now is probably too high, but I feel better than I have in years and don’t at all feel like I’m going without. So I’m doing that whole “listening to my body” thing.
Saying that, I’m going to try and slow down a bit eventually. But not yet.
5.1lbs this week.
Bloody hell, @disappointmentbob, you’ve got the bit between your teeth! But yes, really do that ‘listening’ thing, and make sure you are eating enough. If that rate continues, it means you should be consuming a few more calories.
But well done, fella!
As an all-things-diet obsessive I’ve been watching these threads and I’ve been staggered at the weight you’ve lost, Bob. Mind me asking a bit more about your actual diet? What would a normal day entail?
I’m eating about 1800 calories. Two eggs on a round of toast for breakfast, a salad of couscous, roast veg, leaves and chicken for lunch and then usually a massive stir fry (prawns or chicken, with noodles or rice, bean sprouts, tons of veg) or similar for dinner, which comes in around the 800 calorie mark.
In terms of macros, I’d probably want to get a bit more protein in there, but my body fat % is reducing in line with my weight loss so I don’t seem to be losing much muscle mass. Saying that, I do need to do some strength training to make sure that doesn’t happen. Just been planning a 3-times-weekly routine of kettlebell rows, push-ups and squats and just bought a barbell and bench.
*takes notes*
Thanks, Bob. To be losing that much on such a pain-free regime — well, you’d make a mint if you marketed that diet!
I’m a big dude even without excess weight, and having quite carefully worked out my theoretical BMR etc, it turns out that in practice I lose weight a lot, lot faster than the models would suggest. I guess I just have a really fast metabolism – which makes the fact that I’ve allowed myself to get fat over the years even more inexcusable!
Still one bloody pound off my 16 stone target, then to top it all I fell off my bike after I’d left the nutritionalist and badly bruised my knee! It didn’t help that I had to cycle 11 miles home in pain and I’ve not been able to cycle for 3 days now.
Rant over, by the time I see her next week I am determined that I will have passed my current target and I’ll be back on the bike. Keeping it in perspective my weight last Friday meant I’ve lost exactly 3 stone since starting to see the nutritionalist in March 2015, and 3st 12lb since August 2014 when it finally dawned that I needed to shed a shedload so I’m not too despondent.
Oof! There’s only one thing worse than falling off your bike, and that’s falling off your bike BEFORE the start of your 11 mile bike ride.
I’m in awe of your amazing weight loss, @neil-dyson, and especially your long-term commitment to the goal.
Have a treble on me, (with an asterisk adding *12lb). And when you cross your target – which you will very soon – you’ll get a bespoke rosette 🙂

Having a lovely time in the bitterly cold north-east. Trying to be reasonably restrained eg leaving most of my chips on the plate but won’t know how successful I have been till my return to France at the weekend.
Only four more days of “oh go on then” to go…
Keep the faith. You’ll be fine. Jig about a bit more next week, that’s all.
Leg still buggered, so not walking much, but otherwise it’s good. Eating well, feeling grand (well, at least the 85% of my body that isn’t my right leg feels grand)
Had a posh awards do last week so got dolled up in my best fancy frock – which I don’t wear that often – and realised it was significantly looser than the last time I’d worth it. So, hooray!
Excellent work. You can’t get better than a better fitting frock.
All good. Haven’t weighed myself – I seem to have gone off that. Two people in as many days have commented that I’ve lost weight, which was nice. Still eating sensibly, gym twice a week. need to ramp that up to three – but it’s finding the time.
Compliments are great. If people are noticing, then it is *way* more noticeable than you think.
Sticking with the Park Run – knocked 90 seconds off last week’s time which was good. Also up to 6 and a half k on another run so the 10k in September is very do-able.
Loss of two pounds which isn’t bad considering it was Week Two of Birthday Season so cake, eating out etc. Not quite eliminating bread completely…
I think the ‘eliminating completely’ can be dangerous. Reduce, don’t ban, and you won’t feel like you’re punishing yourself. Well done on the Park Run – and having the 10k as a target for September is a great idea.
Ha ha no chance. Just trying not to treat a slice of toast as a go-to mid-afternoon.
every afternoon
Bad week. Despite doing the trusty old 5-2, I managed to put on 2 and a half pound. That was a surprise and no mistake!
You shouldn’t have had the entire hog roast on day 3, @martin-s 😉
Don’t panic, try and fit in more moving about this week, and see what happens with the scales next week, or the week after.
*waves at everyone*
*takes a seat at the back*
Still a tit. Still at it, I mean. Still not weighing myself but have taken to massaging my stomach at odd times to ‘feel if I’ve lost anything’
I think I have.
Which is good.
More seriously, I’m not taking the mickey out of the participants here or myself, restraint and moderation do seem to work for me. As mentioned a few times, I lost 3 stones about a decade ago through commitment to slow steady loss. I’m paring away at what still needs to come off in a similar fashion.
You’re always welcome on the Chubby boat, @beezer. I’m glad the ship is still sailing, and you’re on board.
*rubs Beezer’s belly*
*thinks ‘it feels smaller’*
*thinks ‘that’s a sentence that makes a man happy in only a very particular context’*
I’m currently shaking my booty to this number. That is when I am not walking my dogs and doing a little running with them when I think nobody is looking. I will fit into my Disney t-shirts again this summer at this rate. All 83.
Why do I click on them. WHY? I know it will give me nightmares, but still I click. @beany, you’re a very wrong man.
And size 83 is rather large, you know, even by Chubby Checker standards.
