We are back back back baby after a hefty come on by @salwarpe. If it ain’t broke don’t fix it, so the rules below are pretty much as before, with a heavier slant towards your virtual CD mix dropboxed as well as physical CDs via post.
That all important theme: Back Again, returns, reunions, re-appearances, the backstroke, back scratches, back of a length etc etc.. Should be enough wiggle room there for you all we hope.
For those signing up for the first time your partners in listening crime are looking for discoveries: nuggets, obscurities and the rarely heard. The QI Klaxon would go off for (for example) Back for Good, Back on the Block, Back In Black, Return of the Mac and so on.
1 Sign up by the closing date of a week from today (22.2.26) by just letting us know in the comments to this post if you’ve not done so before. Those @below are already on the spreadsheet so are in but you can still join!
2 We will then pair everyone up with two other people – you compile a CD or dropbox/wetransfer etc set of mp3s) and post it to two others physically or virtually. So post two out, get two back. You swap your physical/email addresses for physical file or wetransfers privately via the site DMs.
3 Your CD/virtual CD: one CD only. 12 tracks only. Theme: Please rip your files without track or artist names so your partners can listen without prejudice. Artwork is up to you. MP3 tag is a free PC programme that allows you to strip all the artwork and info from your MP3 file.
4 DM us your track listing when you’ve finished your masterwork. DON’T POST IT ON THE SITE.
5 CDs/filedrops to get to your partners in the mail/email by mid-March (we will give you a gentle reminder on the blog).
6 You can then let the world know what you thought of the CDs you received in a megapost we will put up. Posting of reviews by middle of April.
7 We will post track listings at the end of April and watch the recriminations/accolades fly.

I’d like to play please.
Hello. Long time no post.
But I have enjoyed this in the olden days. So, yes please
Will add you to the list @timtunes
Thanks, once again for responding so magnificently to the suggestion, mm. Would I be right in thinking you and Kid Dynamite are the two to receive the (12 hole) cherry red DMs?
How does that work for those lucky enough to be tripled with one or other or both of you? Will you promise not to look until you’ve done your half dozen Tiggerlions?
As there are two swap moderators, each of them can be the only one to see the lists for the group the other one is in, thus preserving necessary secrecy.
That is clever. I should have thought of that.
Hola amigos!
please add me to the list!
it’s group o’ clock!
numbers dictated that we needed two groups of four, hopefully that is okay with those concerned.

I did post some groupings last night but they haven’t shown up, possibly due to too many @’s in one post? I’ll try again in batches…
numbers dictate that we need two groups of four, hope those that the fickle finger of fate has selected for those groups are okay with that

el hablo perfecto! I will get on the case for this right the noo!!
To save myself from a month of mithering, I have curated my virtual CD and sent you both the link for it. Please let me know if the link works for you both
@Vulpes-Vulpes
@Dan-druff
@Bozo
Righty-ho! Off we go.
I sincerely hope that whatever music I choose to share with you folks you doesn’t end up scaring the birds off your (physical or metaphorical) allotment.
Apols for extra you there.
Check your messages – I’m ready to roll with two physical compilations here; just need postal addresses…

@Salwarpe
@Timtunes
Lovely…looking forward to being contrived and obscure
that’s my job! Well that and the black metal
note to my group: only kidding about the black metal!
or am I?
I feel the challenge to reach for the best and least obvious choices. Two fine AWers to be matched with.
CD (well virtual) – sent by WeTransfer to mm and tt.
Now looking forward to 2 dozen in return.
@Mousey
@NigelT
@Myoldman
@NigelT @Myoldman look forward to our swapathon which will, as far as I’m concerned, be a digital/virtual/non-physical happening as I’m on t’other side of the world.
More via DMs soon…
Looking forward to this @Mousey @Myoldman ! Happy to do this digitally, but can also burn a CD if preferred @Myoldman. Brace yourselves….
@NigelT, @Mousey – good stuff. I’ll be going down the digital route as well because I’m outside Europe (it’s not the cost posting, it’s just quite unreliable sending from here a lot of the time)

@SteveT

I have reviewed and revised the long list * removing all remnants of 3rd Division Punk
* “long list” – who am I kidding? slightly bereft of inspiration at the moment and have a list of 4 (possibly 5?)
Update – tracks selected, ordered and anonymised.
Just need @stevet email address to complete the sending
3rd division punk, better raise my game, I’m currently trawling the North west Counties div 2 of kitchen sink folk.
@bogart received, listened, boat floated in places, and noting one spooky coincidence
@rigid-digit
Indeed. I went to to my CD rack to just check that the CD was still there and hadn’t been errrrr ‘borrowed’
@Pizon-bros
@Bamber
@Retropath2
@Mike_H
Duly noted.
Would you like a minidisc version @Mike_H as discussed on the other thread?
I like to keep the swaps that I get in digitised form and MDs are not easy to convert, unfortunately. I have a large quantity* of MD recordings of radio shows that I keep procrastinating about digitising, for that very reason.
Digital or CD for me, please.
You are in Eire, aren’t you? Should be no problem to send a CD if you want one.
*Over a hundred of ’em.
Ultra-quick turnaround from @Retropath2.
His mysterious CD is sitting on my desk as I type.
Haven’t even finalised my longlist yet.
Better get my skates on!
PM your Email/Postal addresses, fellow-swappers?
I have all of my fellow-swappers addresses.
I have my tracks selected, anonymised and in their final order ready to go. Now to find out if my spindle of blank CDs and my CD drive are working OK. And think of some cover art too.
My 20-year-old Denon CD player decided to “go on the blink” as the professionals call it, the other day, so I’ll have to play my received swaps via the computer.
Houston, we have a problem.
Cannot presently get my CDs successfully burnt. I’ve tried 2 different CD drives on my computer and each time the software says the discs were burnt OK but the CDs are silent when I try to play them.
Gonna try again tomorrow with different software and/or on a different computer and see if that solves the problem.
Otherwise it’ll have to be digital files sent out.
I’m having technical difficulties. I have produced a one track CD so far that I’ll check for quality control later. If it’s successful I’ll try to do a proper CD with tracks tomorrow. Good luck with yours Mike.
Problem solved with some new software. CDBurnerXP, which is a completely free download (Windows) and seems very good/easy to use.
CDs will hopefully be in the post on Monday.
Final tracklist decided though not necessarily in the right order! Now to see if I can burn it to CD using technology that’s new to me. I sold my unreliable CD recorder since the last time we did this. Hopefully they’ll be in the post early next week.
And what’s the theme, again, remind us?
For those unable or unwilling to scroll back again.
Theme is back again, returning, reappear, recurring, reunions etc (no not that 18 min Husker Du track) !
mp3 tag costs $39.99 for Mac users.
Any other suggestions for making filenames anonymous?
Surely even a Mac will allow you to see and edit the ID-tags on a file?
You can do it in iTunes or Apple Music (free), just not for FLAC files, ALAC is an equivalent lossless Apple equivalent
Here’s what I did
1. Found each song on YouTube
2. Used YouTube to MP3 (an app available free at mediahuman.com https://www.mediahuman.com/audio-converter/) to download the audio only
3. If you do that there are still identifiable tags. So I imported the audio files into Logic, which is a music program I use – you could prob use GarageBand or any other music program
4. After importing them into Logic I then exported them as audio files, which don’t contain ID info.
Phew!
I’m sure there are better workarounds but that worked for me.
Hi everyone! For the avoidance of doubt, it’s moseleymoles and/or Kid Dynamite who you should send the playlist for your CDs/mp3s, not me.
I’ve received two from players already, and as much as I enjoy being let into the secrets early, it’s probably best if nobody else does this. Let’s keep it for the big reveal, eh?
Sorry, one of them was me! I was confused by the OP which talked about ‘us’ and your name is mentioned there!
It’s up to three tracklistings now – does nobody read these comments?
Hi all, been a bit busy but catching up with CDswap admin on a Sunday afternoon. Yes DM your track listings to @kid-dynamite and myself. As ever, don’t post them here!
I will get up a separate reviews post as I’ve received one album and am about to send my twelve gold bars to my group. So I’m guessing some more organised than me are itching to post their reviews.
Expecting my 3 outgoing CD packages for @Pizon-bros @Bamber and @Retropath2 to be collected by the postman later today.
