The newest episode of CBVD is now online, with loads of records freshly plucked from the fields of Suffolk. It’s chock-full of great tunes, although I fear some of the titles may cause poor Moose to have one of his turns.
Musings on the byways of popular culture
CBVD? RSPCA more like!
Chef’s larder? BBE August 18?
Look at her face! She knows what’s coming!
You monster!
Bump for the morning crowd.
*waves*
Ain’t gonh bump no more…. oh wait a minute, I am
Great Playlist mini – I never knew Babs covered Bowie and loved Frank (and little frank) as always…
Thanks Mr Blue!
I was listening to the Bodines only today (on Scared To Get Happy).
Babs… ohh you shunt have.
I have no idea why you played Frank Sidebottom or Miss Porkington. No idea whatsoever.
PS I remember Peel playing that DITL and saying that he was in tears, just as he had been when he played the original.
Needless to say Ms Brekker, your efforts made me well up.
What did you think of the Syreeta track? Rather unexpectedly ace, I thought. It certainly stood out from the rest of the album.
And did you listen right to the end, after Van finished? There’s a little something tucked away there that makes me moist-eyed.
I know that tune like the back of me hand (steady). It’s not old Bagpuss is it?
Yeah, that Syreeta track is great, if a bit weird. She slightly sounds like she’s making up the tune as she’s going along, as if she’s singing in the bath.
You seriously need to snap up any BBC sound FX albums you ever see – particularly the horror albums (“Track 9 – guillotine drop, Track 10 – arrow stuck in head” etc.) which I used to take out of the library and play very loud to the utter bemusement of my friends.
Oh, and thanks for the Londonbeat, which is a tune indeed. I’d forgotten that one, the only one of theirs I remember is the one about being on the subway.
I’m trying to decide if you’re joking about the closing tune being Bagpuss, because it isn’t, and you’re not normally wrong. Well, apart from *that* kind of wrong…
…wait – you had friends?
…. contemporaries then.
You’re so cruel.
Oh, it wasn’t Bagpuss, btw, it was the music box from the end of Camberwick Green. A beautiful little tune.
Lovely. My mum has a recollection of me dancing The Locomotion as a small child. I don’t. We think we can hear a twinkle in your eye with your amusing segueways and selections. We wish you play some Nina Simone every episode. Can’t go wrong with Nina.
I do like a segue. Nice to know that you and your mum are listening together. Send her my best wishes, and I hope she’s well.
She is thriving, thank you. No promises about Nina, I note. 😉
