The latest Car Boot Vinyl Diaries is now on Mixcloud. Heads up to @Johnny-Concheroo , who asked to be notified; and also to @tiggerlion , for a special request.
And without giving away the answer to the Mystery Singer, it seems that they’re not as au fait with the habits of owls as the residents of the Afterword are.
Sorry Locust, I thought I’d included it but seems it hasn’t shown up! Here you are – I’m afraid it won’t make you feel better (probably worse), but get well soon anyway xxx
Edit: I wish Mixcloud links here didn’t turn into embedded widgets. Since they introduced the song-by-song tracklist reveal you get a big white space beneath the player, taking up a lot of room.
If you see the Did You Ever? album in the back of a Cortina (I’ve been out of the country for a while) you should pick it up, Mini. The first side is a bit tacky, but Side Two is easy listening GOLD.
We are holding a surprise dinner the weekend before mum’s big day, her friends round for tea on the day itself, then, the weekend after, I’ll go round & we’ll listen to your diary together. Yours is the bit I’m looking forward to the most!
Very nice! I’d never heard the Mr Fox track before, but the old Swedish ballad about Elvira Madigan and her love affair with the Swedish count Sparre was still taught when I was at school at least (perhaps today the double suicide ending of the tale may be deemed too dark for kids…) and most Swedes can sing parts of it. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=nO65n8VbTVg
If you have any, ginger root and/or tea is very good, and also curcumin (active ingredient in turmeric). Good ant-viral properties, plus lots of liquid and rest.
Sending healing energy and vibes, Locust π
I can’t thank you enough, @minibreakfast! You capped a wonderful week, just when she thought it was all over. The surprise dinner was perfect. She thought it was for six, opened a door and there were thirty people waiting for her. Her ‘tea’ with friends went well by all accounts. She drove most of them home. It was her sister’s 50th wedding anniversary yesterday, so she went out with them.
Today, I nipped round with a few stray cards. We listened to your diary. She recognised Bowie but declared it ‘not one of his best’. She swore blind the mystery voice was Kate Bush. She loves Johnny Dankworth and reminisced about seeing him live. Both her eldest grandsons were obsessed with The Turtles. “Nineties” she said. Then came your dedication. I tell you, I was happy the room was full of flowers so that I could blame my streaming eyes on a sensitivity to pollen. After that everything was a bit of a haze. We retained enough composure to enjoy Lonnie Donegan. The only objection to AC/DC came from me.
Your mum sounds brilliant, and is clearly still sharp as a tack at 80. She certainly has a better memory than mine for pizza-scoffing cartoon amphibians, that’s for sure! I’m so glad she liked the dedication and the music, and that she had a great week of celebrations with family and friends. Send her my best on your next visit xxx
Go Mini!
*stomps out*
*slams door*
No, no – come back!
π
π
Thanks mini. I’m on it!
‘Special request’. Hur-hur-hur.
Well, no @moose-the-mooche, so I felt it had to be said.
Marvellous. It should be a real treat.
Thank you mini!

Is it possible to get a handy link?
Yes, I’m lazy (and also home sick with the flu…too weak to search for things on the internet! No?)

Edit x 2: And now it’s vanished! Will post below.
Thanks! π
Great stuff Mini! I’m listening to it at work.
*socks it to the man*
Holy smokes! Is that Eruption the same Eruption that did the discomongous version of One Way Ticket?

Ooh, I will. I LOVE that song! (I bet tigger does too, even though it’s a little bit country. Well alright, a lot country.

Wow, sounds great! I hope she has a brilliant time.
Better drop all those Derek & Clive tracks you had planned then.
Gosh, I hope she doesn’t mind AC/DC. If her tastes are as wilfully esoteric as her son’s, she’ll be fine.
The very same. The track I played is the b-side to their version of I Can’t Stand The Rain.

Interesting! I hope you’re feeling a bit better today, Locust.
Thanks! Less fever but more chest pain. So better, but worse… π

Thank you, Dr Druid! π

Wilfully esoteric you say? You have room to talk!
Thank you again. xxxx

She is indeed. She’s looking forward to ‘that nice young lady’s radio show’ next time. Thanks, mini.
