If you fancy something new to soundtrack yr Saturday try this cracking new album from Cavern of Anti-Matter which is Tim Gane and Joe Dilworth formerly of Stereolab joined by Holger Zapf. If you like your analogue synths, Motorik beats and bubbling vintage drum machines you’ll be in heaven already but there’s a great melodic warmth and a touch of Synth-pop gloss to this so it’s not just endless retro noodling. Link is for bandcamp but it’s on the usual streams too.

Love this – the first CoAM was a belter, this is even better IMO
Agree. That vintage analogue synth/motorik thing has been done to death by countless bands over the last few years (even Weller was getting in on it) and I wasn’t sure I needed any more – but Tim and Joe have been at this game for so many years and they absolutely nail it – they also take it to some interesting places melodically – straight off the bat with the almost Genesis like chords on ‘Malfunction’ and I really like ‘Automatic Morning’ which starts off Kraftwerk and then goes into Stereolab circa Dots & Loops trying to play Jazz Funk. Yay!
Enjoying this very much but I do find myself yearning for a human voice (or even a robot’s) in there somewhere over the whole length of the album.
(Although entirely likely after the familiarity of a few more listens I’ll be retracting that comment with a Greg Mitchell-style “What was I thinking?” – ‘Course it should be wall-to-wall bleeps)
