Very very sad, The Royle Family was a superb original piece of comic genius.
From reading her obit she struggled most her life with illness, still 52 is far too young…
Sad news indeed.
Quite rightly praised for her big characters and sitcom creations (she did naturalistic before and so much better than Gervais – Mrs Merton & Malcolm series is a much underwater gem) but was brilliant at quick sketch character like this

2016 is proving to be a pretty horrible year all round (Wembley trips for the OP and me aside). My wife cried when she saw the news this afternoon.
It seems we have also lost Robin Hardy (director of The Wicker Man) and Michael Cimino (director of The Deer Hunter) over the past couple of days. And one that may have passed you by, Bud Spencer died last week at the grand old age of 86. Anyone who was a member of a video shop in the early 80s will remember his films with Terence Hill, not least the ‘Trinity’ films.
