Why this lot has emerged in little old Bury St Edmunds I’ve no idea, but it’s up for auction this Friday.
Some interesting vinyls (sorry) also in the auction
I might have to pop up and take a look!

This is a wonderful collection of stuff for the Beefheart completist.
You’d have thought though that putting it up for auction in London, for example, would attract a larger, more international audience.
I was reflecting , if we think our record collections will be a challenge to offload, spare a thought for the guy on there with the ornamental pin cushion collection.
As for the tin teardrop…
“Don Van Vliet the artist is unconstrained by style or by representation or by anything much. His art goes beyond, it questions what people are looking for when they observe art, and why. I have been collecting Don Van Vliet art ephemera from all over the world, because the importance of his works demands it. It needs to be understood in the context of the great artists and the art movements of the 20th Century. ”
So glad they’ve pointed that out.
Some interesting vinyl in those lots. A few nice vintage bits of hi-fi too – a Pro-Ject deck and some nice old Rotel separates for a start. Ooh, and some nice old Quad bits’n’bobs. @fentonsteve
Shame B.St.Eds is too far from Foxy Towers for me to investigate further.
If I could get there I’d certainly take interest in the opportunity to complete my collection of Snivelling Shits singles.
The Quad 303/FM3/405 would make someone a lovely system, or at least until they turn off the FM signal.
The vinyl pricing is, um, interesting. A few of the lots seem to be Chazza bargain bin staples.
Haven’t they been just about to turn off the FM signal for about 25 years?
Yeah, latest was “not before 2030” or somesuch, even though we reached the point of less than 50% of radio listening via FM years ago.
Half past 8? Radio 1 would’ve joined by that time, relegating Radio 2 to Long Wave only
I see no reason why Fenty’s comments should arouse me sexually, and yet here we are.
In other “we’re all going to Hell in a handcart” news, The Archers omnibus is moving back by an hour, and DID is being extended to an hour.

It’s lucky that Desert Island Discs wasn’t one hour long when England rugby coach Sir Clive Woodward was on the programme. The entire listening population would’ve been comatose with boredom.
Oh yes. Him and any guest who starts off with “I don’t really listen to music”. Kirsty/Lauren should be able to ask “What are you bloody well doing here then?”
All is not lost, Steve. Not if you’ve still got one of those little FM transmitter thingys ..
You know the ones. People used to use them to play their iPods* in their cars ..
* Or Fiios.
What is the assumption – everyone listens by the interweb?
50% of previous audience is still a lot of people.
When DAB was announced, it was a technical solution to a fairly non-existent problem. The FM dial got busy in large cities with legit stations and pirates competing for space, and that was about it.
The 1980s uk Tory gov’t liked it because (a) no more pirates (b) more efficient use of the spectrum = more stations = more money. The only trouble was, because of the primitive MP2 encoding system, the sound quality was noticeably worse than FM. But, hey, more choice is always better, isn’t it?
Policy was no FM transmissions would be turned off until at least 50% of radio listening was by DAB. Since then, of course, the internet means more digital options. Latest RAJAR figures are 43% DAB, 26% online, 28% FM. Many stations in the UK are moving to DAB+ (AAC) encoding, and many countries are now switching off their DAB transmissions.
Possibly unrelated, but all those home-counties pensioners who still have their Roberts FM radios keep voting Tory, and don’t want to have to replace them with new tech.
Why don’t they do what my Dad did and write a stiff letter to the Radio Times – if they publish it you get a free DAB radio.
Outrageously he tried the same trick again about three years later when he fancied another radio for upstairs…
