Was yesterday. Results indicate the Liberals will fall just short of an overall majority. The electoral system is almost identical to the British one, first past the post with a certain number of seats needed for majority rule (172)
This is a remarkable turnaround, just over 2 months ago the conservatives had a 25 point lead in the polls heading for a majority of over 100 seats. Then 2 things happened, Justin Trudeau resigned after his former close colleague, Christina Freeland effectively took him out in a Geoffrey Howe style manoeuvre, and then Trump came out with his “51st State” nonsense while applying tariffs.
The NDP (closest party to UK Labour) vote has collapsed, leader Singh lost his seat and has resigned. Trudeau didn’t stand in Montreal and the glorious Portillo moment has arrived with slimy right wing Trump wannabe, conservative leader Pierre Poilievre losing his seat here in Ottawa!
So none of the main 3 party leaders on Jan 1st are still MPs today. Quite remarkable!
Update: Liberal victory! ELBOWS UP!

Yes, but, as I said, still short of a majority it seems. Could change, but they are currently projected to win 168 seats so 4 short. Similar election in some ways to the 2019 UK one with both main parties getting over 40% of votes for first time in ages.
Of course choosing Carney as Liberal leader also helped. Also forgot to mention that in Poilievre’s riding (constituency) there were 91 candidates! The winner there has the remarkable name of Fanjoy, some of the candidates got zero votes so they couldn’t even be bothered to vote for themselves!

I’m sure Fox will find a way of spinning Trump’s latest international balls up as part of his 3d chess, ‘art of the deal’, genius strategic thinking. Or at least his useful idiots will be wheeled out to say so.
He said he would prefer to work with a Liberal leader (not sure why), so he will take full credit. He clearly didn’t like Trudeau though.
Listened to Mark Carney’s brilliant speech. As the governor of the Bank of England I was always impressed with his calmness and pragmatism.
I think the Canadians have chosen well.
What we need now is a global economic crash so that Mark Carney can show us his mettle as PM.
I predict one right about now. Well, last month and the next three and a half years or so.
Australian Federal election is this weekend, and there seems to have been a similar shift away from the Liberals, if polls can be believed. Two months ago they were predicted to be romping it in, whereas now Labour is predicted to hold on with a reduced majority. Again, the Trump effect has been cited.
