First (ice) hockey games between the countries at full strength for a decade and the Canadians triumph with world’s best McDavid getting the winner.
US had won the previous round robin encounter in Montreal where the US anthem was roundly booed (very unusual), and there were 3 fights in the opening 9 seconds of the game!
However Canada wins the competition in one of the most politically charged games ever between the 2 nations.
Donald Trump, your boys took a hell of a beating

There’s very little to beat a last minute winner is there?
Unfortunately the end was past my bedtime, but nice to wake up to that today.
As Wales are playing Ireland tomorrow in the 6 nations this will be my only international win this weekend 🙁
Top corner!
I’m still upbeat from Monday evenings Leeds 94th minute winner against Sunderland.
Cracking win that @leedsboy!
My Leeds supporting mates are very sure they are not going to cock it up this season. You really should have gone up last year but my team Ipswich were just a bit more consistent across the whole 46 games I think.
Good luck in the Premier League, it’s ever so hard!
It’s a wierd thing – to want something despite knowing it’s going to be a lot less fun. I was pleased Ipswich went up. I think Southampton did a number on us all last season. It will be good to swap places with them. There are points available at Spurs though….
Yes, I’m stupidly optimistic that we might get something tomorrow though I fear Spurs might be reverse-Spursy. Then we’re at Msn Utd . I’m fortunate to be the recipient of some unwanted corporate tickets so looking forward to it…again stupidly optimistic!
I am genuinely not going to be too upset if we do go down.
Glad to see Farke getting booked. Disgraceful behaviour, running on to the pitch just because his team scores in the 34th minute of injury time. Never liked him even when he stood in front of the Barclay and we all went Whoooooaaahhhhh!!! In private, he’s a right bastard and I’m very, very glad we sacked him.
Oh god, how we miss him …
My brother, a season ticket holder at Sparrow Road says similar.
I genuinely love him dearly. He is very close to Bielsa levels of respect from me.
Yes, possibly up there with the USA and the Soviets back in 1980 in terms of the politics involved which is a worrying thing to say.
The American anthem has been routinely booed at NHL games since Donald announced his plans to annex Canada. We shall see if that continues when the NHL resumes.
Only one minor penalty all game in stark contrast to the group game.
Here’s hoping my beloved Habs make a late charge for the playoffs when the regular season resumes ( it ain’t going to happen).
Like all North American sports, this game is of no interest to me in itself but, in political context, I’m happy to see Canada rub its haughty neighbour’s nose in it.
I’ve cancelled my vinyl afternoon in the cafe this month because they’ll be showing the rugby on a projector onto the wall.
Mrs F and I met a friend in there at 4pm the Saturday before last, and there was a table of ratarsed people behind us shouting “COME ON ENGLAND!” at the wall. I know who many of them are – one of them is the local plumber. Last month they came and sat at the table directly in front of my speakers and then complained that
they couldn’t hear each other shout “f**k” at each otherthe music was too loud. Who gets shitfaced in a cafe at four in the afternoon?I really can’t be bothered.
Perhaps you could bring forward your planned Motörhead afternoon…
Metal Machine Music is getting a much-needed remaster on metallic (i.e. grey) vinyl for RSD. I wonder if…
