I’m very much enjoying the Can ‘The Singles’ collection released today. I didn’t realise Can released much in the way of singles but it seems they did, and while they are perhaps best heard in extended album format it’s quite fun to hear a career spanning set distilled down to a bunch of 7″ edits. If you’re unfamiliar with the band this is an excellent entry point – and it seems I’ve never heard ‘Turtles Have Short Legs’ before which was released around the same time as Tago Mago – it’s a cracker.

I am hoping mine has arrived when I get home Sunday. Looking forward to it.
Too ‘Far-out’ for me,Man..
I was astonished to discover that Can actually appeared on TOTP.
Can’t find that clip but I did find this one from 1972 which may interest you.

Here’s the top of the pops appearance. I seem to remember Noel Edmonds made a rather bad pub at the start which is missing from this clip. Love this single. Loving the album too although each side seems short, could’ve probably fit onto double vinyl. Also it comes with MP3 download code which isn’t yet active. That aside it’s a great collection. At least one track sourced from vinyl tho as liner notes confirm.
He said “I wonder if Can will get into the Top Tin” – the full clip with Noel’s intro is included on the Can ‘Box’ DVD that came out years ago.
Download is working now. Soul Desert is the only one that sounds from a lo-fi source, they’ve done a good job with the rest. The quality dips sharply toward the end though – ‘Can Can’ etc.
It’s a fun album alright; to my ears, Shikako Maru Ten sounds like a vinyl source.
Might lump on for those early 45s, be they sourced from vinyl or otherwise. They’ll sit well with “Monster Movie” and “Soundtracks.”
Always say it, say it again, if Can (not exactly Top 10 regulars) have an As/Bs compilation, why not David Bowie and Marc Bolan’s 60s 45s and The Who?
That’s a great song Dr. Didn’t know about the album. Cheers. Will have a google.
