My friend Cormac O’Kane has done a wonderful job (technically and musically) to produce this in-isolation collaboration by an array of Northern Irish artists on a bespoke rewrite (by iits writer, Pat Gribben) of the Adventures’ 1989 hit ‘Broken Land’ in support of the NHS. I found it moving – simple and effective.
It’s linked to a fundraising platform:

That’s completely brilliant Col!
I’ll have a pint of whatever Jim Brown’s on.
Terrific stuff – they should play this across the nation at 8 tonight.
Ha! Jim ‘The King’ Brown is Ireland’s leading Elvis Presley impersonator…
Jim Brown is probably the world’s leading Elvis impersonator. His pair of “Elvis does songs he didn’t” albums are amongst my favourite:

If he’d lived and was still doing the Vegas cabaret thing, those are the songs he’d be doing.
No chance of a cover of the Dead Kennedys Too Drunk To F*ck
Excellent stuff.
On a similar theme a link to this arrived in my inbox this morning from Philosophy Football.
Nice to see Brian Kennedy (Kennedy) back singing (back singing) after his illness (his illness)
😀 I wasn’t aware (wasn’t awaaaaaaaaaare, oooo-oooo-yeah) he was ill.
He’s had rectal cancer (I’m talkin’ ’bout trouble in the back passage)
Brother Bap’s pancreatic and bowel cancer (it saw him off, so it did)
I love the original song (The Adventures were marvellous). I was thoroughly enjoying that and then, at the end, a tear or two appeared.
Highly and wholly laudable. And brilliant.
Quite – although it is quite dusty in this room, I think something went in my eye.
Same here. A moist eye or two present and correct.
That’s a quite superb thing.
Yes, I found it moving too. A simple but brilliant visual concept and a recording made with the right spirit. (Obviously, a 12-hour version with John McLaughlin soloing was made but had to be abandoned when it was found out he wasn’t from NI.)
The song is great anyway – nay, brilliant. Great song, great collaboration, great cause.
(Petesy Burns and Greg Cowan unavailable at time of recording? (And no room for Colin “Smash The System” Harper)
Ha! I was more than happy to be a brief sounding board for Cormac towards the very end of the project – when I think he was so stir crazy after two weeks of facilitating the distribution of mics to musos’ houses etc and then pulling it all together in the studio that he just needed a friend with fresh ears to hear it and say ‘Yes, it’s a fantastic mix! Press go!’ 😀
Really wonderful stuff, Colin. Great to see all that talent there, and, yes, as mentioned above, especially Brian Kennedy who last I heard was really seriously ill.
