Quick heads up – The Man Who Fell to Earth is on Talking Pictures TV at 9pm tonight, that’s Freeview Channel 81. I don’t think I’ve seen it for more than 30 years, and even then remember finding it ‘of it’s time’ but I’ll set the recorder for it.

Correction – it is scheduled for 9.50pm tomorrow night, with another showing at 10pm next Thursday.
Thanks Count Jim – I was just going to make the same correction, after I noticed when I set the timer.
Worth watching but one of Roeg’s weakest I think.
Really? I think it’s one of his best!
Maybe I was harsh, For me not up there with (co-directed) Performance, Walkabout or (especially) Don’t Look Now, actually TMWFTE is probably in the middle somewhere. I should give it another watch, but just found the Bowie character to lack any redeeming features. I can get most UK Freeview channels here in Canada with a VPN, but have not seen Talking Pictures, does it stream anywhere?
Update: Can now get Talking Pictures courtesy of TV Mucho, some good stuff there, but picture quality not that great and loads of commercials, that’s what you get for a “free” channel I guess.
I haven’t seen it for a long time but there are several memorable moments and Bowie’s performance is captivating.
At first glance, I thought you said ‘several member moments’.
Might be on the directors cut.
As opposed to Labyrinth, which boasts “several non-member moments”
I have always found it a poignant film.
The soundtrack is perfect for it too.
The Man Who Sold The World is getting a 2020 Visconti mix, released under the original name, Metrobolist.
The original title and sleeve screams “Do not buy this record”.
The released sleeve just, er, screams.
Wonder why Visconti is remixing it. I was listening to it the other week on headphones and noticed how well mixed and chunky it sounded. Apparently he is going to leave ‘After All’ as is, because he feels it cannot be improved on.
I wasn’t a fan of his Lodger remix, I hope he doesn’t decide to whack shitloads of echo and compression on here too.
Metrobolist would have been a great title, although Boz probably realised it would soon become a millstone around neck – “No, not Metropolis, yes I love Fritz Lang, no, it’s Metrobol- METROBOLIST…Oh, FFS etc”
I really like his Space Oddity remix. Lodger is a bit hit & miss but when it hits it’s magnificent.
I liked his Lodger. MWSTW is more “his” album than those others. It’d be funny if the bass just drowned everything else out… it’s pretty “plooky” as it is.
“he feels it cannot be improved on”, translates as they can’t find the master tape. Wish Visconti would leave well alone. I am not convinced Bowie would be happy with his endless tinkering.
For such a brilliant performer when singing his own songs, my goodness, Bowie “acting” makes me look like Laurence Olivier. How many adjectives to describe”wooden”?
