That’s most excellent, thank you.
As I may have banged on about on here in the past, I missed this in person as the future Mrs F’s lift home under-estimated how tiring Glasto would be while 7 months pregnant and went home at lunchtime. And the good lady hadn’t booked Monday off work. Consequently, I had to drive her home on Sunday evening, listening to this on the car radio as it was being broadcast live. And muttering under my breath.
My other attempt to see DB was the Phoenix festival. I was stuck in traffic for the duration, and reached the campsite to hear “thankyou and goodnight” drift over from the arena.
That’s what happened to me as well!
Phoenix 96 and the traffic was horrendous.
Finally putting up the tent and we could hear him doing Lust For Life.
So never actually saw The Thin White Duke but I did hear him and see some of his lights flashing at the top of the stage!
Nice one. Thanks. This was my first Glasto and I dragooned and bribed both my kids (13 and 9 at the time) into staying the full distance to see him that night. It entailed long afternoons in the Kids Field and too much Bodger & Badger but looking back, they thank me for it now.
The only other time I saw the Dame was the Ziggy tour in Manchester at an old bowling alley temporarily titled The Hard Rock. I distinctly remember seeing someone from our school in makeup and faux fur in the queue in front of me, which in those days of two tones and crombies was a rare and somewhat brave fashion statement even for a Bowie gig. He went on to front a band and the scene of his preparations for that night in was portrayed in the film Control.
Watched this from the tree line in front of the Pyramid, smiling from ear to ear; DB was having a blast, and I enjoyed the experience more than any other set I’d ever heard, anywhere, from anyone.
Thanks for this. I was there too, with my family. My then 9 year old son dropped one of his fossils during the Bowie set and we spent a good while looking for it in vain.
Anyway, it was the last time I saw Bowie. The first time was at the Toby Jug in Tolworth in 1972. I still have the flyer for that show.
That’s most excellent, thank you.

I have a soundboard of the Phoenix show too. Maybe that can be a future “drop” as am planning to do these for a while

Thank you so much, DFB.
He does seem to be enjoying himself.
Thanks so much! Love that version of “Stay”.
Drive like a demon from this station to Bowiestation, ya dig?
Dude, you’re gonna wind up in that Villa of Ormen.
With Genial Harry Grout – who’s in for torrenting the King Crimson remasters.
