What does it sound like?:
If you had a really, really good imagination, this 10 part series from Amazon Prime looks and sounds exactly as if it would if you read the Michael Connelly books and had your mind project what you saw in your head onto the screen. Titus Welliver nails the Harry Bosch role. A couple of the stars of The Wire are great in it. The story is largely that of City Of Bones, one of the best early Bosch books, but updated. I’ve read all the books and can assure you this is a superb adaptation, done with Michael Connelly’s input and blessing. TV doesn’t get much better than this.
What does it all *mean*?
It means I’ll have to read the books again. And that Amazon Prime is worth getting.
Goes well with…
Jazz.
Release Date:
Might suit people who like…
The Killing. NYPD Blue. Borgen. Nordic Noir.
I saw the pilot a while back which was excellent. I thought it had been mothballed but Amazon sent me an actual paper letter today telling me about this (odd for a digital company). Will be using this to fill the gaps between episodes of The Good Wife.
Surely that’s the late Derek jarman…
I was not a big reader of books but cannot get enough of Michael Connelly. Unfortunately I rely on charity shop finds and libraries so read them out of sequence. Once I start I do not want to put them down. I have just started the City Of Bones so will not watch the TV series until after I have finished it.

Me too . Charity shop books at £1.50/£2.00 a pop are the way ahead as far as I’m concerned. The Harry Bosch books are excellent . Don’t have Amazon Prime alas but will try and track the series down elsewhere.
Likewise Philip Kerr’s Bernie Gunther books. Superb.
Cool, will try – its difficult to know with the new direct to SVOD series whether they are any good
Amazing that it’s a whole year since I saw this. The good news is that season two starts on Amazon Prime this month.
It’ s great TV – Bosch is lovingly portrayed as grumpy, stubborn & damaged, but with the heart of a lion – not to mention a top drawer pad overlooking LA & a nifty hi-fi for his Art Pepper vinyl – there are whole threads online that break down the hi -fi components piece by piece!
One of those crime dramas where I don’t really care how it is all resolved, I just enjoy hanging with the characters.
Recommended.
I love the books but hate the tv series – the guy playing Bosch is stilted and nothing like the character I imagine.
I notice MC is an exec producer on the series which spells danger – witness Tom Cruise ridiculously playing Jack Reacher with the approval of Lee Child
Mind you, would have good if Ian Fleming had been around to say no to Roger Moore
Season 4 starts 13th April in the UK
