I think he isn’t, as a cunt is useful for many things, as those of us have travelled through one can be grateful. (Me, not so lucky, I was a caesarean, before i get accused of lowering the tone.)
I’m not sure who I dislike more – Johnson (eton, oxford, bullingdon club, cushy jobs in the media – what do you expect him to be like!) or the people who like Johnson.
I certainly wouldn’t want to get into an extended conversation with anyone who might be a member of the latter.
Sid Vicious rarely enters my orbit, but his observation “I’ve met the man in the street, and he’s a c***” is so pertinent to 2020 it rivals Nostradamus in its foresight.
Couldn’t agree more.
I have to add Matt Hancock to the list – to publicly announce ‘this is scary and it’s out of control’ and then watch as Europe effectively puts us into isolation is idiocy personified.
More candidates to dislike more must include the backbenchers, about whom he has to be worried, who pressure him against placing restrictions. It’s not just deluded optimism that guides his decisions; it’s the truth that the nutters in his party – did I mention that they were Brexit loyalists? – think he’s gone too far.
Sir Charles Walker, Vice Chair of the 1922 committee, believes that the announcement was manipulated to be delayed until the parliamentary recess, so as to avoid scrutiny by the people who voted for the Christmas period of mixing by law.
well, yes maybe, but the danger is that name calling deflects from the real problem, which is that his pathological need to be loved makes him a dangerous leader in a crisis.
I firmly believe that his behaviour in the first couple of weeks of this pandemic have had a significant effect on his authority.
I live in Norway and, in the beginning of March our government (also conservative) basically said, and I paraphrase, “look folks, this is bad but we dont know how bad yet. Go home and stay home, we’ll shut the borders and get back to you”. Immediately everyone knew it was serious and, since then the population has been largely compliant through the various cycles of easing and tightening of liberties.
Boris, on the other hand, was “gosh, look at me with my tousled hair and crooked grin, its all going to be fine, just jolly well wash your hands to the sound of God Save the Queen and dont forget you’re British! Rah, Rah… oh, and by the way I just went round this hospital and jolly well shook hands with everyone *crooked smile, hand through hair*”
At this point he lost any chance of appearing commanding and decisive and his pathetic attempts at Churchillian body language, including clenching his “Eton fists” to look hard, just look comical. He set the tone of blind optimism which has led him to a constant cycle of overpromising and U-turns which is wearing everyone down.
So whether he is a cunt is subjective, but I dont think there is any doubt that he is a weak and narcissistic leader and thats definitely not what you need at times like this.
I agree with what you are saying except for ‘set the tone of blind optimism’. I think he did exactly the opposite. He instilled a feeling of doom in the country with his constant chopping and changing. Along the lines of ‘If Boris thinks this is bad it must be bad’.
but the constant chopping and changing is a result of what I mean by blind optimism, maybe I put it a bit clumsily. Basically he only wants to give good news but is invariably forced into following it up with a dose of reality.
He reminds me of the Hugh Laurie´s character in Black Adder 3, George IV?
Now I see what you mean. I just didn’t read it that way – I would have preferred a longer lockdown in retrospect. I don’t think anyone in government has filled me with any optimism whatsoever – I just got the constant feeling they didn’t know what they were doing and making it up as they go along. For the health minister to publicly announce that ‘it is out of control’ referring to the new strain just beggars belief. He was no doubt doing it to justify tier 4 but effectively spooked all of the neighbours who we rely on for food. Well done Matt you bloody idiot.
“I just got the constant feeling they didn’t know what they were doing and making it up as they go along” – agreed, it’s like being governed by the creators of Lost.
I genuinely believe we have now reached the point where we need a “Covid” government . Much like Churchill during WW2. It’s so clear this lot are out if their depth it’s stopped being a joke and it’s becoming frightening . Where does this end with Johnson and co? The answer is, it doesn’t. Who could be our Churchill? I’d give anything to have Rory Stewart in charge. Experience with Ebola in Africa, not afraid about damaging his image and I think able to grab this shit show by the balls. Who else? I don’t know. I want people who get angry. Stand on the rostrum in front of millions and go full Geldof. “Just fucking do as we say or we will be stuck in this revolving door forever.. ” and for the masses to go. “Ok, we trust this lot”.
I Thought about that too – last night and this morning. The two issues we face ie the Pandemic and Brexit are too big to be in the hands of one indecisive party. A party of national unity not making decisions on the basis of popularity would be a better option.
Brexit should have been resolved by now and would have been if the partisanship was absent. Instead Bojo is scared shitless of his backbenchers just as Cameron was which lead us to a referendum in the first place. If Labour come out and equivocally back a deal with the EU then Brexit can be sorted quickly.
Then we can devote our attention to the Pandemic.
I don’t think there’s a snowball’s chance in hell of us getting a cross-party “Government Of National Unity”. The new intake of Tories from the last election are Brexit fundamentalists to a man/woman and loathe even the thought of dealing with their Labour or Lib-Dem counterparts. Same goes for the Corbynista remnants in the Labour party. Both Tory brexiteers and Corbynista theoreticians would rather kill us all than compromise one inch with each other.
Definitely agree with the sentiment, but it’s a bit saggy. This is far tighter, all the way through.
My uncle George worked for the real Rediffusion and would have very much endorsed the sentiment, if not the language.
I think he isn’t, as a cunt is useful for many things, as those of us have travelled through one can be grateful. (Me, not so lucky, I was a caesarean, before i get accused of lowering the tone.)
Your tendency to exit a house via the kitchen window has been noted.
Calling him a cunt is all well and good but he has neither the depth, nor the capacity, to give pleasure.
He doesn’t even look like he smells nice.

Can’t say you weren’t warned

“The others”= Europe.
