Sadly one of the stalwarts in Nick Lowe’s bands over the past 30 odd years has died aged just 62. Nick has developed into a showman that can hold a show together on charisma alone but back in the early 80’s it often seemed that Bobby Irwin was the glue holding it all together.

Not showy, but one of the best.
That’s a shame. He was on that scene for a good while.
This is bad news. I’ve been out all day and just returned from a funeral and the first thing I see is Bobby’s name at the top of the list.
I was acquainted with Bobby through his sister marrying a close friend. We got in to a few Nick Lowe gigs through having our names on the guest list.
Sally had asked if the band would play a set at the wedding reception and they all agreed except for Bobby who apparently said “I’m not working at my sister’s wedding. I want to get pissed”.
A fine drummer, and as befits a member of Lowe’s circle, not afraid of bad jokes. When he lived in Texas he was known as JuanMo Time. Even without his exemplary, unshowy drumming, he goes into the list of good guys just for that. But, what a great drummer.
