Saw this on the dodgers and considered the likelihood that I’d enjoy old crooner classics reinterpreted by croaking Bob and a bunch of chord crunching idiots like Venom. Decided against it, though similar unlikely collaborations might possibly have actually had some merit.
Your own favourite unlikely collaborations that surprsingly hit the spot for you?

Always thought Bowie and Queen was an unusual collaboration. The coolest guy in the world with the most uncool band (or so considered at the time), of course it was very good

I still play Run C&W’s “Row vs Wade” (note cover…) of bluegrass versions of soul classics. Of course this has been done to death now by the likes of Hayseed Dixie (also great fun) but it’s a fine example of great songs working in any context.

I saw Hayseed Dixie play a couple of years back. Absolute hoot from start to finish – great showmen too. The mandolin player in this clip – Joe Hymas – is a regular at the Didmarton Bluegrass Festival and a top chap. I’ve never seen him wearing anything other than those dungarees. I don’t think he sleeps all weekend at the Festival, and crawls off on the Monday morning to hibernate for a week in recovery. Absolute monster player and a lovely bloke.

New Model Army and Tom Jones.
Unlikely, but excellent, cover of Gimme Shelter a few years back.

Excellent indeed! @bobness. What a find!
