I believe the 9th disc will be a DVD or summat.

Sample track:
Vulpes Vulpes says
Unlucky thirteen Bob. Ain’t gonna fork out 50 sovs to hear disc after disc of phoned-in salvation rhymes. Probably won’t even go for the twofer if it’s full of those songs.
minibreakfast says
Ha! That’s just the MP3 listing, Vulpes! The CD set with concert DVD will no doubt be over a ton.
I’ll be in it for the 2-discs, as usual.
Looks like we’re still waiting for the physical versions to be listed.
Junior Wells says
Phoned in Foxy? You kiddin me? First time he sang with any passion in years. When He Returns. I Believe In You . Nuf sed.
Every Grain Of Sand is top 5 of all time for me.
I expect the DVD will be the widely bootlegged Massey Hall shows in Toronto -they were professionally filmed but never released.
Moose the Mooche says
With passion? Be careful what you wish for . On most of Highway 51 he sings like a Dalek, which is perfect for the material. Passion is overrated. Sometimes the words do the work.
Lando Cakes says
I like to hear people sing as though they mean it – and he certainly does here.
Baron Harkonnen says
Dalek? Get yer speakers sorted.
Vulpes Vulpes says
Yebbut, that’s not passion, that’s delusion.
But that’s just my twisted atheistic analysis, and I’m happy for others to find it inspiring if that’s their thing. Personally I can’t stand all that guff. Man gave names to all the animals, in the beginning, in the beginning? FFS. Ah, think I’ll call it shite!
Lando Cakes says
This is good news. While not being particularly religious myself, I have grown to love this era of Bob. It’s the last time he was truly on fire IMO – there was only a spluttering flame thereafter.
Having said that, I’ll probably do what I’ve done with the other box sets and wait a year for the price to come down.
Junior Wells says
Sometimes that backfires. They can go up.
Baron Harkonnen says
The 9CD will probably go for £110 but could drop to £89, the vinyl 4LP for £50 but could drop to £39.
dai says
I saw him in Birmingham in 1981 (my first live Bob) just after the London shows that are included here. Will be interesting to hear that era again. In those days the Dylan live experience was considerably much rarer than it is now, and that tour was a HUGE deal.
Lando Cakes says
The reference to the London shows had me scurrying to check the track listing. Alas, it’s not the same night I saw (the 30th). It will be good to hear something in the same ballpark though, after – yikes – 36 years.

F*cking pop ups. 😾
Lodestone of Wrongness says
AdBlocker is your friend…
minibreakfast says
Down boy!
Lodestone of Wrongness says
Tigger is fucking pop-ups and all you can say is “down boy”?
Moose the Mooche says
I know. I wouldn’t even stick my fork in the toaster…
Almost Simon says
Bit disappointing to be only live performances. The last 3 BS’s have been essential, this one less so. I’ll probably still get it. The live track is pretty good (playing as I type,) but not sure i need that much live Dylan.
But this is just my initial reaction, no doubt ill get sucked in once i’ve read all the reviews.
minibreakfast says
It is mostly live by a long way, but there’s the odd outtake/rehearsal/soundcheck dotted about too.
Baron Harkonnen says
CDs 3&4 are studio outtakes, I think.
DogFacedBoy says
Think leaving off the in between song fire and brimstone rants from Bobbles loses some fire,
Lodestone of Wrongness says
Not “some” – try “all”. Those were Strange Days indeed: saw Dylan 3 or 4 times around then. The band was amazing (as it should have been with the best drummer in the world ever onboard) , Bob’s voice was different but compellingly strong but God Almighty Jesus listening to those rants was like watching a mattress on a bottle of wine. That for me was the end of the end…bye bye Bob, hello Sweet Marylou , I think the music just died.
Moose the Mooche says
Rat Scabies played with Dylan???
Lodestone of Wrongness says
Damn, I forgot Rat is the best drummer in the world: love it when he goes off the beat, it’s like a mattress on a bottle of wine
H.P. Saucecraft says
On the first Damned album, the only one anybody ever need listen to, Mr Scabies plays like he’s having all the fun in the world, all at once, and he’ll never have any ever again. That’s how to play the drums.
dai says
How many times would you want to listen to them though?
Junior Wells says
you might ask that of so many box sets – isn’t that Lodes’ hobby horse ?
However the family is away I have shores and I’m gonna load up the 5 changer cd player and immerse myself . So not often but when I do, it’s rather nice.
dai says
I meant the sermons not the discs. I am as much a sucker for these as any other fanatic. Haven’t even started on the 1966 live box yet!
Lodestone of Wrongness says
So Junior, the only time you play box sets is when the other (ie sane) members of your family are not at home?
Seriously, I still maintain box sets , apart from the odd standout track, in the majority of cases get played once, maybe twice. Quite why I still procure the fuckers remains a mystery.
NigelT says
It’s annoying that these big sets don’t get released on Spotify. Presumably it is to encourage physical sales, but surely they don’t sell THAT many anyway ….or do they? Of the big Bootleg sets I’ve only bought the last one, the Cutting Edge – couldn’t resist it….!
Baron Harkonnen says
They do sell Nige, that`s why plans are already made for B.S. 14 which is a `Blood On The Tracks` special.
NigelT says
Yes, I guess there must be the market otherwise they wouldn’t be shoving this stuff out all the time. I am rather inclined to think we are in the time now of diminishing returns, but the 1966 stuff was amazingly popular by all accounts (I gave in when the price came down, but still haven’t listened to the whole lot), so what do I know? Still cross it isn’t all on Spotify.
Baron Harkonnen says
There`s some great stuff in there Nige.
As far as diminishing returns go I agree. I really don`t think there`ll be a market for LPs & Box Sets in 10-15 years time. The market for these has to be 75% – 50 years+, 25% – young hipsters for most of whom the novelty will wear off. 0% – the rest whose listening habits are thru their phones & streaming, that`s if they give a shyte about music. Yes there will be some who love music like most on here but those are my thoughts.
So Apple, Macca, Dhani, Yoko pull yer fingers out and get the S.E.s of `Rubber Soul`, `Revolver`, Magical Mystery Tour, The Beatles (AKA The White Album) & Abbey Road out.
deramdaze says
I’m still amazed that Apple didn’t realize this ten years ago and started planning there and then a 50th Anniversary issue of all the albums.
They’d have made much more money.
Perhaps they should have got Dylan’s people onto it.
NigelT says
I think the 2009 remasters and reissues sort of snookered that, but the expensive box set is a fairly recent development – suddenly we get these mega releases from Dylan, the Who, Pink Floyd etc. and they sit up. Terrible missed opportunity for remixing the earlier albums, but I’d love Giles Martin to do it after the Pepper release. Not convinced the White album and later albums will benefit all that much.
Baron Harkonnen says
Maybe on the mastering front, but it`s the outtakes I`m interested in and there are many.
Junior Wells says
Will address a few issues in one post. I reckon they probably at leasty make money just on the pre orders from people like me who buy this the 5000 recordings of the same set list in 1966 and everything else.
I suspect there wasn’t much left in the can and what there was has been put out on other releases.
I beleive he was in fine voice back then. Passion for passions sake is not what I’m talking about. A Soul screamer doesn’t necessarily have conviction. It’s believing what you are singing. That’s why Idiot Wind on Hard Rain is so good. Lennon doing Working Class Hero. In the case of the Dylan gospel era and even Lennon’s WCH you might bridle on the message but I can get past that but then I can watch Jimmy Swaggart’s TV show and enjoy the performers. BTW never liked Bob’s white reggae and yes Man Gave Names is lame though possibly one of the more popular from that era and been adopted by reggae artists..erk.
Here is Slow Train from Massey Hall. Looks like it’s come from VHS tape. Sound is good though and will be fantastic if we get the original footage. Crack band: Spooner Oldham, Fred Tackett..

Junior Wells says
Can’t resist this. Pressing On -a personal favourite. Thing is Bob gets to God botherin’ for 2-3 years in his career and writes a classic , absolute classic gospel song that has been adopted by many gospel choirs as a standard.
Vulpes Vulpes says
Gimme Mahalia Jackson any day.
Mike_H says
Yes indeed.
Junior Wells says
She sung em but he wrote it.
Mike_H says
That’s the thing about his Bobness.
Since the days of his prime, I mostly prefer his songs when interpreted by others.
Junior Wells says
Hmm not sure I can think of one song that I prefer other versions over his.
Baron Harkonnen says
There`s only one for me and that`s `Jason & The Scorchers` version of `Absolutely Sweet Marie`. Here`s alive version, play it fuckin` LOUD!
Mike_H says
Jimi Hendrix, The Byrds, Fairport Convention, Emmylou Harris, Nina Simone, Richie Havens, Maria Muldaur, Cassandra Wilson, The Waterboys, Barb Jungr, Warren Zevon, Wilco, Gene Clark, Julie Driscoll. Probably loads more if I could remember them. All of them have done good Dylan covers, if not on record then live.
Junior Wells says
Oh yeah sure and I posted that wonderful version of Not Dark Yet by Shelby Lynne and Allison Moore. Youssou Ndour Chines of Fredom etc.
Like em , even love some. Just always prefer Bib’s version
Junior Wells says
note to self -don’t post til you’ve woken up.
SteveT says
This guy was for me the best Dylan interpreter. Gone too soon:
Junior Wells says
Extra concert DVD from San Diego 1979 if you buy from here
https://www.bobdylan.com/
Baron Harkonnen says
Aye and the shipping costts will be a massive extra.
I`ll wait until Sony decide on releasing these seperately.
deramdaze says
The trials and tribulations of Dylan’s conversion (no, not Johnny Wilkinson) in and around 1980, reads as fantastically dull in the latest issue of Mojo.
It’s clearly not helped either by the fashions and hair-cuts (and not just Dylan, everyone looks awful) of the day.
The free CD (without offending pictorial evidence) is, however, fabulous.
Might well be the only gospel I’ll ever need but great for a Sunday morning.
